I am not at liberty to divulge details at this time, but with Ken's support I am working on something exciting that may (if predictions come true) see the Harrison Schmitt tickets sell out in days.It does NOT involve any surprise guests or speakers. I will post details if it comes off. But in the mean time, might I suggest anybody waiting to purchase a ticket get one quickly.... while they still can. |

I have now sent the info to The National Geology Council in Piccadilly London, and to a local geology centre who have told me that they will pass the info onto their members. |

One obvious way to enhance the experience and provide the audience with a great memento of the evening would be to video the entire event (obviously with the permission of organisers and guest) and offer a quality DVD of the event for a reasonable price. This would save a lot of people the trouble of bringing a camcorder and wondering whether they will be allowed to take a shaky video with dodgy sound. |

At this time... yes. The prospects will improve still further just as soon as Carleton Community High School update their website with the details. This will open a couple of publicity opportunities that may well see tickets sell out very quickly. |

Why is it necessary for the school to update its website before one can start to advertise this event? Okay, it's held on school premises but it's not organised by the school and the hall will either be hired or donated because of Ken's position within the school. |

There is something I eluded to in an earlier post. I have been in contact with a high profile scientist here in the UK who is willing to "tweet" about the event to his followers... all 600,000 of them.Having done so he expects the event "to sell out in hours." Indeed, he expressed reservations about tweeting, concerned that die hard fans may miss out on tickets in the ensuing rush. He would like to add a website link to his tweet. That is what I am waiting on at the moment. I will divulge more details just as soon as the website is updated and "tweets" appear. Ken is not a teacher but works closely with Carleton Community High School and is reliant on friends teaching at the school to update the site. The delay in updating the site is due in part to the half term holiday this week. Trust me, Ken, myself and others have been advertising and mailing details of the event for weeks. To Universities, space science and geological institutions of all shapes and sizes, not to mention space themed tourist centres and individuals. It is hoped the celebrity support will be the icing that sells out this particular cake. Yum yum! |

Carleton Community High School is yet to update its web site with details of the Harrison Schmitt event largely due to the fact it has been closed for a week.In the mean time I have placed the details temporarily on my own site until such time as the school site is sorted. |

No news regards Jack Schmitt signing photos at the event in October be he has confirmed that he will sign a maximum of 3 copies of his book, per person, free of charge!Could people have dedications on a note and the books open at the page they want signing? |

I'm waiting also. But the guy is doing us a favour so I am reluctant to badger him right now. Give it a while longer (until after Carleton have updated their site) and I will give him another gentle reminder. And then all will be revealed. |

Don't know at this time whether Dr Schmitt will be bringing copies of his book with him but the question has been asked and I will update in due course.Ken tells me there will be copies available to purchase on the night regardless but I do not know at this stage how many. I would suggest everybody brings at least one copy just in case. |

At this moment in time, yes.I am hoping there will be a professional formal photo opportunity as has been the case at previous events organised by Ken. |

Wow, up to 3 copies for no charge! That's much more than we could expect. A lot of hard work has gone into arranging that little bonus. |

The cynic in me wonders how long before these extra copies appear on eBay at a mark up price. Would have liked Ken to have asked for one autograph per person and not necessarily the book.

Ken I know has discussed a number of different signing options with Dr. Schmitt. This is the one he is currently comfortable with. For what it's worth, probably the only public event this year or for the foreseeable future where there is any guarantee of a signature. |

There is that but not in my case. One signature is more than enough and just the book is acceptable, to me anyway. One way to reduce the eBay risk is to insist on a short inscription in each, as with Anders, but that could be a long evening. At least by agreeing to his book he makes a few book sales. Good for him. Are we really going along so that we can get a signature, or three, or is it so that we can be in his company and meet him? For me it's the latter and if there were to be no signatures at all I would still be going. |

I agree, a photo and handshake is nice if possible and while a signature is the "icing on the cake" it wouldn't stop me attending. |

I couldn't agree more. Just to get to his talk and meet him is enough, any signature a bonus. |

Carleton Community High School, the venue for the Harrison Schmitt event has now updated their website.Longer term this would be a better link as the school's home page may be liable to periodic change. |

Keep those ticket orders coming folks.Still waiting for the "tweet" from... Professor Brian Cox; former pop star and now highly successful physicist and TV presenter. He is unable to attend the event due to filming commitments in Australia in October but did suggest a tweet. He now has all the details but expressed concerns that his tweet would result in an overnight sell-out. He is probably waiting on the hardcore fans to get their orders in so let us not disappoint. |

Professor Brian Cox is as good as his word. He has kindly tweeted the Harrison Schmitt event to his 632,000 followers. Now might be a good time to get your ticket orders in. Furthermore, he may be able to attend one of the nights after all; it will depend on a number of variables and commitments. I am hoping he can be persuaded to introduce Dr. Schmitt on the night he attends and possibly mingle before and after the talk. |

Excellent! This is a great endorsement for all the hard work that has been put in by Ken et al (that includes you Rick ).However, I cannot help but notice that this was the weekend that we would have got to meet Walt Cunningham so let's all get behind the ticket push for our own sakes if no-one else's. Definitely don't want a repeat of that! (not very likely this time though.) |

Pity that I see that some have latched on to the ticket cost already rather than the enormity of his visit. Maybe someone who has a Twitter account could quickly post an explaination as to why. I don't use Twitter and I have just made my first and last visit there. |

Paul, I am something of a Twitter virgin. I have sent my own tweet and also replied to the chap who said the ticket price was high.It is £60 a ticket because Dr Schmitt's fee is high. The event is none profit and 850-ish ticket sales over the two nights are required to meet the costs. Neither response has appeared on the site and I do not understand why. Perhaps somebody could tell me where I am going wrong? Professor Cox has said "I'll tweet it again in a couple of days, and keep going until it's full!" Top bloke! |
