NASA release NASA Astronauts To Visit Intrepid Sea, Air & Space MuseumThe last crew to fly aboard a space shuttle will visit New York City's Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Aug. 18. Commander Christopher Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Sandra Magnus and Rex Walheim completed a 13-day mission to the International Space Station in July. The STS-135 flight marked the end of NASA's 30-year-old shuttle program. The STS-135 crew's events: 10 to 11:30 a.m.: Presentation to more than 200 students from Intrepid's educational programs (ages 7 - 15) inside the museum's Allison & Howard Lutnick Theater 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.: Meeting with public at two museum exhibits: - Journey to Tomorrow traveling exhibit, a 53-foot long, walk-through trailer packed with exciting interactive learning stations on the museum's pier
- Project Kewl exhibit located in the museum's Exploreum Hall. Project Kewl is an interactive educational game using the Xbox 360 and Kinect sensor that allows visitors to explore the space station, walk on Mars and take control of NASA's coolest robots.
In April, NASA selected the Intrepid as one of four museums to receive a space shuttle. It will be the new home for the Enterprise, currently on display at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia. During the STS-135 mission, the crew delivered more than 9,400 pounds of spare parts, spare equipment and other supplies in the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module --including 2,677 pounds of food -- that will sustain station operations for the next year. |

I'm one hour from NYC so if I'm free I'm there. I met up with some great collectSPACE members at the National Air and Space Museum's John Glenn and Scott Carpenter lecture, if anyone else is going, there you go. |

I spoke with someone from the Intrepid at the event at the Eventi this morning. She stated that due to schedule commitments, the crew would be reducing the second portion of their time at the carrier and it looks like it will be running from 12:15 until 1:45. She also stated that they intended to focus autographs to the pier area. |

A tad hot standing in line and I suspect the folks at the Intrepid could have coordinated things a bit better, but I enjoyed my opportunity to meet with the crew. Four extraordinarily nice individuals who, when given the opportunity, enjoyed discussing their profession and their experiences. |

Just returned from a very enjoyable afternoon meeting with the crew of STS-135 aboard the Intrepid. It was a perfect opportunity to have the crew members sign my "Face In Space" certificate for the final Shuttle mission.I will forward photos from today's event to have posted in the "sightings' section. |

What a great choice of item to have signed! Did the crew say anything about the certificate or the Face in Space program when signing? quote: I will forward photos from today's event to have posted in the "sightings' section.
Photos received; will go up with the next update... |

Thanks, Robert. I hope everyone enjoys them! They seemed a little surprised when presented, but were all aware of the "Face In Space" program that was part of their STS-135 mission. Commander Ferguson commented that he no longer signed his name as "Chris" Ferguson (as it appears on the certificate) but as C J Ferguson. It really is a great memento of our last space shuttle flight. |

I used an 18x24 shot of Atlantis's launch to collect the full crew's signatures. Cmdr. Ferguson commented to the NASA assistant that he always found it interesting to see what people bring. |

They liked the rollout photo I brought to the Eventi Hotel and made comments on how they remembered that day. |
