Sadly Neville Kidger who was a regular writer for Spaceflight magazine on the Mir and ISS space stations died on the 2nd of December. He was a regular contributor to the now famous Soviet Forum meetings at the British Interplanetary Society in the 80's. When President of the Society I was proud to present him with a Society medal for his services to the Society.I will be contacting his wife Wynn and his two children. He will be missed by many who knows space has lost someone who always promoted it and dreamed about its potential. |

That is terrible news. Neville was a real space nut; to die so young is appalling. RIP. |

I am sure that we at the BIS will certainly do something to mark his life. Certainly to remember his contribution to the advancement of space exploration and the dissemination of his valuable knowlege to everyone who read his articles and met him. |

In the early 80's, When I was about 16 Neville used to provide me with lots of material; photocopies of space stuff, audio recordings, pictures and general info on space. I learned a lot from what he sent me and really appreciate the time he took to encourage a "young space buff".My best regards to his family. RIP Neville. |

Enjoyed his many articles in Spaceflight over the years. His contribution 'Orbital Operations' in January 2010 Spaceflight is itself a fitting memorial.R.I.P. Neville. |

Very sad news. For so many years now, his articles have been a constant within the pages of Spaceflight. It will be difficult opening it's pages with his reports absent. My sincere condolences to his family and colleagues at the BIS. Ian |

There will be an appreciation of Nev's work and life in the next issue of Spaceflight. The BIS magazine which he wrote for every month for thirty years.Spaceflight does not pay its contributors which is mainly written by its members and fellows. Nev's articles set a standard. Rex |

I really look forward to reading it, he certainly raised the bar when it came to space reporting. I feel honoured to have had the chance to contribute and share my space writings for the magazine and to be amongst such greats. God bless Neville |

It was with great sadness that I learned the loss of a very good friend and colleague, Nev Kidger. Neville and I had been in communication since the late 1970's in regard to his extensive Salyut 6 reports. It was a friendship that would last 30 years. I feel very fortunate to have known Nev and his family and to have worked with him on the production of Zenit magazine between 1985 and 1991, in fact, without the unselfish support and encouragement, as well as his skills, Zenit would not have been as popular as it eventually became. It is to Nev's great memory, that people still ask me if Zenit will ever return and if copies are still available. We also had the opportunity to visit Stanstead Airport in 1983, when Enterprise made a brief stop-over on the way back from the Paris Air show to the United States. We had the opportunity to meet Dick Scobee and P J Weitz only briefly but it was still a memorable day. It will be very sad not to read Neville's Space Station accounts in the BIS Spaceflight magazine and hear his, always cheerful Yorkshire accent again. It is also with regret that the joint book project we had preliminary discussed on Space Stations will not occur. It has been humbling to read all the wonderful comments about Nev and his work and comforting to know that his efforts were of help to many fellow space enthusiasts, authors and historians and copies of his work live on in the archives of the BIS and in many journals and publications documenting Soviet/Russian space operations and history. He will be missed very much. |
