New year, new logo...To launch the countdown to collectSPACE's 10th anniversary on July 20, 2009, a special edition of our logo debuted today that will be used throughout the coming year. The design draws inspiration from the historical reference to "light this candle" with 10 rocket engines firing, one for each year we've been "The Source for Space History and Artifacts". The tenth anniversary logo was designed by graphic artist Joel Katzowitz, who has been a member of collectSPACE since 1999. Ten years earlier in 1989, Joel designed the displays for the original incarnation of the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in Florida. The project involved working with the surviving Mercury astronauts as well as researching all aspects of the early space program. Since then, he has designed over a dozen commemorative postal cancels that have been used at the Kennedy Space Center post office, including: the Apollo 11 25th anniversary "boot print"; John Glenn's "return to space" in 1998; and most recently, the 50th anniversary of the Explorer 1 launch. He says his favorite project though, was designing the unofficial "Dog Crew" patches for the STS-69 and STS-88 astronauts. We have some fun projects (and products!) in mind for the logo, with details to follow soon, and there is more to come leading up to and through our 10th anniversary date. |

Robert, congratulations for being Mr. cS and doing it so well for these 10 years. I visit the site at least once (almost) every day and never fail to learn something. Whether it's technical, historical, newsy, funny, or ethical, you deserve the credit for driving it. You do a great job of being the voice of reason for many of the "heated" threads by giving the 30,000 foot overview and not being judgemental.Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the 10 year anniversary celebration. Happy New Year to all, -Joel |

Robert (and Joel) --Happy 10th anniversary and Happy 2009 and let me echo what James said, "Joel's the man!" Great and unique anniversary logo, Joel, as with all the other artwork designs -- both commercially and privately -- you've done throughout the last 15 years or so. As always keep up the good work. You're the best, Joel, as this is coming from one of your biggest fans and supporters. |

Congratulations to your 10th anniversary, Robert. When designing logos, just keep in mind that multiple engine clusters are difficult to control. I think the Russian N-1 moon rocket failed when its 32 engines could not be synchronised properly. ;-) Way to go! I met Robert- along with Joel Katzowitz, Al Hallonquist, and several others- at Russ Still's house in Atlanta maybe a couple of months after the birth of cS in 1999. Robert was a 20-something kid who was telling everyone about his new site. I began watching the site that night and officially became a member a few months later. It's been a joy to be here since the beginning.Robert, your work here has been outstanding. You have provided us with this virtual common ground and meeting place that has had a remarkably tangible and lasting effect on the hobby. I don't know anyone who would dispute Collectspace's roll as Information Central for anyone in the world who collects anything related to spaceflight. Thank you, Robert. Rob |

Congratulations my friend. Our first meeting was at an Alan Bean/Andrew Chaikin lecture at the University of Delaware which was posted on some cS website. Pete Sarmiento introduced me to cS... and cS has introduced me to many, many space friends. I would not have been able to make those friends and meet many astronauts without cS. Your friend, Garry |
