U.S. Space & Rocket Center Press ReleaseThe famous Saturn V replica at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville will be all awash in pink this week as the Center prepares to host the Pink Ribbon Launch for Huntsville’s own Just for Women magazine, a special fund-raising event for breast cancer research.
Those able to observe the 36-story Saturn V replica will notice the distinctive pink lighting beginning at dusk on Tuesday, February 22, 2005. The purpose is to not only promote Thursday’s Pink Ribbon Launch event at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, but to also call attention to women’s issues, above all women’s health and the efforts to eradicate breast cancer.
“Just as those who support this issue will wear a pink ribbon lapel pin, we’re going to bathe the Saturn V in pink for three nights to show our support,” according to USSRC CEO Larry Capps. “Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. On average, a new case is diagnosed every three minutes. We all have to do our part to promote awareness, prevention and find a cure for this disease,” he adds.
Thursday’s Pink Ribbon Launch at the USSRC begins at 6 p.m., and will include a silent auction and door prizes, hair and make-up tips and fashion forecasts from the Artisan Salonspa, Feng Shui: creating balance, harmony and prosperity presented by the Feng Shui Order, hors d’oeuvres and wine and a fashion show featuring local breast cancer survivors modeling the fashions of Doncaster, as presented by Shelva Pevey.
Additional sponsors include the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Parisian, Callie Allies, Executive Group Realtors, Womensports and Red Door Interiors.
Tickets are $25 and are available from sponsors and at the door.
