Anybody in the N. Ala. area plan on coming to see Curt Newport and Liberty Bell 7 in Huntsville Friday or Saturday?------------------ http://www.hatbag.net/blog.html "America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972 IP: Logged |

Run, don't walk to this. It is a fantastic exhibit. Gives me chills to see the preserved Liberty Bell 7.It is very exciting to listen to Curt tell, and show, the story of the recovery. Its like God was on his side. He says that he has spent a week looking for a British Destroyer from the Falkland Island War and not found it, but the first of many targets he looks at slowly came into sight and was LB7 (only about the size of a big garbage can). Plus having one cable break, and at last minute getting another vehicle and making the recovery (from 16,000 ft plus, about 7,000 psig hydrostatic pressure). Curt is a very ineresting guy. If you have a chance, ask him about his dream of recovering one of Jimmy Doolittle's Raiders from China Sea. [This message has been edited by STEVE SMITH (edited May 26, 2004).] IP: Logged |

Liberty Bell 7 will be on display at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville from Friday until September 5.Newport will be signing copies of his book on Friday and Saturday from 1-3 p.m. each day. I have not yet heard if he will be speaking, or if there will be any other public events while he's here, but I have a request in for more information, and will post any developments when I hear them. ------------------ http://www.hatbag.net/blog.html "America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972 IP: Logged |

LB7 has already been a great many places, as can be read about in this 2000 article: Capsule launched on nationwide tourSince then, a deal was reached with the Cosmosphere to extend the tour in return for LB7 stopping "home" for some TLC and display. Discovery Channel used to maintain a list of tour cities but I can no longer find it on their website. LB7 will be at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Alabama through September 5. IP: Logged |
