I was shooting with a new camera and without the benefit of any additional lenses so I only captured a few good shots (there's room for improvement) but I thought I would share a couple...

If you look carefully at the next shot, you'll see there are three distinct contrails -- the large one with the glow is Columbia, the smaller two are the SRBs separating!

I am told that the two SRB contrails seen here was unprecedented. We could follow their path all their way down...

Pink!

Robert -- GREAT pictures. Thanks for sharing. The last one is, I think, my favorite.

Richard

PS: Any word yet on the Brandenstein signed items? Just checking ;-)

Hi Robert
Where were you at the launch. I was at the static test site. This was my first launch and I if my pictures turn out I will have the same shots that you have. I wish I would have known you were there too.

Great photos Rob! And great seeing you again. I had an awesome time at this one, much better than my first. Chatting with Rob and a few others on the lawn helped pass the two hours before launch. And boy, absolutely stunning spectacular launch! That will be hard to beat.

Let me post mine separately.

If you had binoculars could you actually see the SRB's under the chutes, or were they too far away?

Sorry I missed you Charles, I was at the press site...

Tom, I didn't have binoculars but my guess would be that the SRBs would be too far away to see.
