U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) troops used rockets in combat during battles island hopping in the South Pacific. The above USMC cover was sent by Private C.E. Cox in the Second Rocket Detachment, Second Marine Division, and mailed by the Fleet Post Office, San Francisco, California, October 7, 1944.
The USMC cover shown was also screened and signed by a U.S, Navy Censor prior to its mailing back home via San Fransisco, California.
This cover was mailed by USMC Private First Class, J.M. Ryan to his family, November 24, 1944, from the Headquarters Battalion, Third Amphibious Corps, from the war zone in the South Pacific, where he was at the time. His cover also was checked and signed by a U.S. Navy Censor prior to its mailing back home to his family in San Fransisco, California.
