In addition to U.S. Postal Service's pictorial postmarks for the 1969: First Moon Landing stamps being issued on July 19, 2019, other organizations will offer special cancellations to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. People attending these local events may obtain the postmark in person at the temporary Post Office station established there. Those who cannot attend the event but who wish to obtain the postmark may submit a mail order request. Pictorial postmarks are available only for the dates indicated, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the requested pictorial postmark date. All requests must include a stamped envelope or postcard bearing at least the minimum First-Class Mail postage. Items submitted for postmark may not include postage issued after the date of the requested postmark. Such items will be returned unserviced. Customers wishing to obtain a postmark must affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in the flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: Pictorial Postmarks, followed by the Name of the Station, Address, City, State, ZIP+4 Code, as listed next to the postmark. Customers can also send stamped envelopes and postcards without addresses for postmark, as long as they supply a larger envelope with adequate postage and their return address. After applying the pictorial postmark, the Postal Service returns the items (with or without addresses) under addressed protective cover. |

Just so I'm reading this correctly...my ultimate goal is to have three Apollo 11 postcards with the new 50th anniversary stamp affixed to it and the postmarks from KSC, Houston and Alameda. One launch postcard will go to KSC for it's postmark, one moon landing postcard will go to Houston and one recovery will go to Alameda. Each will not have an address on them. Just the stamp and postmark.Because of no address on the postcard, I'll need to send the postcard with just the new stamp in a SASE. Then the postcard and the SASE will need to be in a bigger envelope that I'll send to the addresses listed in Robert's post for KSC, Houston and Alameda. Now the new stamps aren't available until the 19th. But that should be okay because I'll have 30 days after the date on the special postmark for each, correct? (I did notice that Alameda's postmark date shows July 20, 2019. Shouldn't that be July 24, 2019?) Again, just running this by to make sure I do this correctly. |

If you want, I can personally take care of all your KSC cancel needs on July 19/20, and also anything else for the 16th launch anniversary here at KSC, the Cape, Merritt Island, and Titusville. Official FDI cancel requests as well along with some unofficial FDI cancels here on the Florida Space Coast. Just email me. |

I am told that the addresses for one or more of those three postmarks may be changing. There will be confirmation in an upcoming issue of the USPS Postal Bulletin (either coming the first or third week of July), so probably best to wait preparing envelopes until then. |

Ken, thanks for the offer, but with the new stamps not coming out until the 19th, I wouldn't be able to get my postcards to you in time. Thanks anyway though. Thanks for the info on the possible address change Robert. I will hold off. And since nothing was mentioned about my plan, I must be on the right track. |

Note: For all the pictorial postmarks requested in this thread, or any others, keep in mind that the two Apollo 11 stamps to be issued July 19 can only be used on postmark cancels dated on or AFTER July 19, not for any "old" pictorial cancel requests, because the two stamps were not on sale before July 19. Yes, it appears the cancel date for Alameda/USS Hornet is the 20th, not the 24th splashdown date, which is a bit odd. |

Good point. Thanks for pointing that out. So those stamps obviously wouldn't work with KSC. |

For this situation, I'm going to use these really nice JFK stamps I purchased today. I just might use these stamps for all of my postmark cancels. They are really nice. |

The USS Hornet Museum is now offering cacheted covers ($7.95): Set of two envelopes with the official 50th Splashdown Anniversary Hornet logo — featuring the special edition First Moon Landing Forever stamp from the USPS — and then each *individually* hand stamped with the special USPS endorsement/cancellation mark. |

I purchased a couple of pictorial envelopes from the Australian post and was wondering if I could use the anniversary stamps (US ones) on the envelopes to obtain the pictorial postmarks. Would this be a problem or the Postmaster object to cancelling since the envelopes are smaller than the 8.5-9" size with the boot print and Australian post bar codes and description on the back? |

No problem at all. If you want Cape Canaveral on them for July 20th with the new stamp(s) added, mail them to the CCPO or even to myself for processing. Remember there are two different pictorial hand stamp cancels available at Canaveral for the 20th. |

Ken, I tried to order the USS Hornet Museum covers. However I live in Australia and they don't appear to ship outside the USA. Is it possible for me to order them through you plus any covers you are doing with the 50th USS Hornet Splashdown postmark? Thanks. |

Yes, no problem, as I did place a standard order for other Apollo 11 50th covers from other U.S. locations, in addition to my own issues. I'll get back to you soon with those available covers. |

Thanks Ken, I look forward to it.Joe, the only special postmark so far announced is from Parkes. It is the official postmark for Australia Post FDCs and Maxicards. There are three FDCs, one for gummed stamps, one for P&S stamps and one for the minisheet. The maxicards come in a pack of four, one for each stamp and each with the Parkes postmark. The best place to purchase them and other collectibles is from Australia Post. Search for Moon Landing. |

In the next Postal Bulletin due 8-15-19, there may be extensions for some of the 50th anniversary cancels. Linn's in their latest issue had some extensions. |

The Cape Canaveral postmarks had a 60 day extension when they were announced. The letter of the law is you must postmark your request but the extension deadline so you should be OK. That said, I have heard about occasions where the postmark was taken out of service at the extension deadline. |

It would have been up to NASA to organize something on this occasion. Roscosmos will certainly not launch a commemoration of an American space event on their own. |

I got a refusal from the Canandaigua post office in New York State for their Ropex pictorial postmarker used on 18 May 2019.The cancel was only announced in the Postal Bulletin im mid-August (!). Their reasoning: "This was used a long time ago." Beg your pardon: first they do not succeed in passing timely information through the Postal Bulletin. They are three months last with that. And then they have the guts to refuse cancellations? What an incompetent bunch of people with an abysmal information and customer policy have landed there? |
