Space Cover #487: Kazakhstan Soyuz TM-17 special postmark error Here is one very short story.
One of the first Kazakh special postmark issued in 1993 towards Soyuz TM-17 flight was never used. After it was produced an error has been revealed – France was misspelled. The postmark was banned from being officially used but due to collector’s requests a limited number of covers was cancelled in Alma-Ata and then sent to Baikonur, where they received a general postmark, most probably backdated. Due to high demand for this postmark a fake cancellation was produced in Moscow.
Interestingly but less know, Kazakhstan issues a wide array of space related special postmarks, while some of them are quite uncommon and rare.
