Space Cover #477: Space wheel, an old dream. This week, the section no shows a cover as usual but a postcard.
The space wheel is a very pursued and old dream, not yet achieved, which consists in the building of a space module in the form of a rotating wheel to get an artificial gravity. In this way, the human life in space could be more similar to Earth's life.
Unfortunately, would be necessary to build a wheel of gigantic dimensions that would consume high amount of energy while rotating and the gravity effect would not be as successful as terrestrial gravity.
Along the years, several solutions have been proposed, no definitive though.
The postcard above bears one of the first Italian astronomy stamps and is postmarked in Milan in March 16, 1957, some moths before to Sputnik 1 launch.
Please, if you have in your albums other old space/astronomy postcards, be kind to share here with others.
