Space Cover of the Week, Week 448, December 24, 2017

Space Cover 448: Happy Holidays from USS Yorktown

With December comes thoughts of the holidays and the upcoming New Year. It is also the time for the final stamp shows of the year. This year's trip to the local stamp show was no exception.

Among the normal "dollar boxes" of thousands of US and foreign covers, many the odd size that don't fit into the normal cover boxes, I came across an "odd-size" Apollo 8 recovery ship cover from the USS Yorktown. Nothing out of the ordinary until looking at the "stuffer."

Inside the cover was a generic "Merry Christmas" Hallmark card with a holiday "postage stamp" motif shown at the top of this post. Interesting enough but when opening the card up it had printing on the inside from the USS Yorktown!

And a Happy New Year

Followed by the handwritten note – "I thought you might like the envelope G F Wagner"

I do like it!

So from all of the contributors of Space Cover of the Week, Happy Holidays to you and your families and all the best for 2018!

Ray Cartier provided a scan of a different Christmas card from the USS Yorktown that he has displayed in his Gold Medal exhibit.

The card is different from the one I have and has a nice note related to the Apollo 8 flight.

All times are CT (US)
