Half a century ago, Russian cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, wearing a spacesuit and backpack life support system with a reserve of oxygen, exited a spacecraft airlock into open space for the first time in human history. This moment is pictured on the stamp, of which 500,000 were produced and distributed to the country's post offices.

In addition to the stamp, a pictorial postmark and first day cover was also offered.

Space fleet series of the Baltic Shipping Company

First spacewalk was one of 4 major Soviet space FIRSTS (first satellite, first man, first woman and first spacewalk). It was treated well in Soviet astrophilately. To my shame I don’t have a lot of covers dedicated to this event, due to loose focus. But here are some from my collection.
