Linn's Stamp News obtained a copy of recent Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee meeting minutes that outline the subjects of the commemorative postage stamps being planned for 2014. Among a full year of celebrity-driven subjects (such as The Beatles, Elizabeth Taylor and James Brown), the plan for October includes a stamp (set of stamps?) labeled only as "Solar System." No other details about the potential space-topical stamp(s) was provided. As Linn's notes, "there is no certainty that the listed stamps will be issued in 2014." |

The Washington Post obtained a leaked copy of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee's January 2014 "Approved Subjects" list for stamps to be issued in 2014 through the next few years. The "Solar System" stamp(s) is identified as "in design development." No other space or astronomy-related subjects are included on the list (with the possible exception of a new series of "Science Fiction Writers," which could include figures with crossover ties to real space exploration). |

I read on the Virtual Stamp Club website that the Solar System stamps are rumored to be issued in October. It will be really interesting to see what these stamps look like. |

collectSPACE 'Solar System' on leaked list of US postage stamp subjects for 2014The United States Postal Service is planning to put its stamp on the solar system — or rather the solar system on its stamps. A confidential document shared with The Washington Post includes the "Solar System" on a list of U.S. stamp topics that have not yet been announced publicly but are planned for release later this year. The "approved subjects" include the "Solar System" among the postage stamps "in design development" as of Jan. 7, 2014. Although some work on the list's stamps has started, the United States Postal Service's (USPS) executive director for stamp services, Susan McGowan, told the newspaper that the topics are "subject to change" at any time. I am very disappointed that stamps honoring Neil Armstrong and Sally Ride are not among those being planned for release. I wrote the advisory committee a while back suggesting such stamps and I received a reply that they were under consideration. (Unless there is a tie-in with the solar system stamps). |

The "Solar System" stamps rumored for release this October have fallen off the schedules published by Linn's Stamp News and other philatelic publications. It is not clear if this means the stamps have been canceled outright or postponed. |
