HelloI have purchased a large lot of US FDC (1961-1970) today in Paris (Stamps Market / Marché aux Timbres) and inside I have found many handpainted cachets covers signed by B. Kraft. I would like some informations about the artist B. Kraft and how many covers have been printed for each stamp (especially Mercury and Gemini stamps) Thanks LadyCosmos |

Could you possibly post a scan of your finds and the autograph?I am unaware of any "B. Kraft" having designed any US space stamps (which might be my lack of knowledge), but I think it would still help ... Merci - Jürgen

I have not heard of a B. Kraft either. It could be that B. Kraft just added a design to these FDC for their own personal enjoyment or perhaps made a couple for friends without doing them commercially. These could have been done at the time of issue or painted more recently, which seems to be occurring more frequently. |

HelloHere a photo of example of cover (sorry my scan is temporaily out) From my informations, his name would be Bernard KRAFT. After Web search, apparently designed handpainting cachets for many US FDC stamps. I found date from 1954 to beginning 70's. But no informations about him... Thanks LadyCosmos |

B. Kraft seems to have created numerous one-of-a-kind handpainted cachets - I have found numerous FDCs done by him in many fields - though I have not found details on him personally the earliest cover I found with his handpainted cachet is a 1939 Golden Gate Bridge FDC so these seem to be add-ons in a low quantity. The latest one I found was from 1999.Some of the covers I have seen pictured are signed as -Ben Kraft- instead of -B. Kraft- as the one you have pictured. Hope this helps.
