At one time the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) post office was a substation of the Orlando, Florida post office as "Orlando" appeared as part of the KSC hand cancel. Is the KSC post office still part of Orlando or completely separate? If separate, any idea when that occurred? |

There is an Orlando post office at the international airport facility that, overall, controls the mail stream from Kennedy Space Center. That regional post office complex still maintains KSC-related mail operations on a routine basis. Much of the space philatelic operations, however, are now a part of a much smaller postal facility, or "store," located in Titusville, FL, at the intersection of Harrison and Barna streets. Meanwhile, since July 1965, there is still in operation a separate postal station located inside the KSC Headquarters Bldg. of the space center's industrial area. All of the on-base spaceport's mail, both government and contractor, is handled and processed here. Requested philatelic mail is also processed, within limitations, at the same facility. |

Thanks Ken! Do you know when the hand cancels with "Orlando" in it was replaced with ones that didn't have it? |

Where is the Headquarters located and is it accessible to visitors? |

The KSC HQ building is past the security checkpoint, in the Industrial Area. I had to check in at the pass office when I was at KSC three years ago, and my pass (which had been arranged in advance) was checked at the security checkpoint. I may be mistaken, but I don't believe they let visitors in who aren't on official business. |

No, the public cannot visit the HQ building. It is, however, visible from the bus tour. | |
