A major (for me) announcement:The Mars Society is a nonprofit organization that advocates for human exploration and colonization of Mars. It hosts research analog missions at two locations: - The Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (FMARS) on Devon Island in Canada and
- The Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in the desert in southern Utah.
Both of the stations are placed in remote locations to replicate conditions on Mars. Crew members perform simulated extravehicular activities, carry out research assignments and reside at the station habitat on rationed supplies.Over the last ten years I have supported The Mars Society by helping analog crews design their mission patches, often with the assistance of Jorge Cartes R. To thank me, last year they invited me to participate in a two-week analog mission at the Mars Desert Research Station in southern Utah later this year. For the first time I have designed a crew patch with my name on it. My role is that of an embedded crew artist and I'll be creating artwork to illustrate the experience. Phoenix Crewmates: - CDR: David Laude
- XO/Crew Engineer: Michael Andrews,
- Health and Safety Officer: Urban Koi
- GreenHab Officer/Journalist: Elena Saavedra Buckley
I'm very excited for this opportunity and look forward to a once in a lifetime experience. |

You'll have a such a blast. We spend a few weeks a year out in the BLM areas immediately adjacent to the MDRS because it's one of the most beautiful, isolated areas in the country. We go days without seeing anyone else. The best part is the rockhounding. Your creative juices will flow out there. Bring extra red paint! | |
