The mountain in the distance is Mt. Tsukuba, which can be seen from the Tsukuba Space Center. Floating above it is the International Space Station (ISS). The red object on the ISS is the Japanese Experiment Module "Kibo." Astronaut Takuya Onishi is the flight director who oversees the Kibo operations control team as well as an astronaut. In this figure, by drawing the ISS from the perspective of Astronaut Onishi looking up at it together with his colleagues on the ground, it is showing the bonds between he and his colleagues, and teamwork.
Also, by depicting Mt. Tsukuba, a familiar sight for the ground-based colleagues in Tsukuba, it is expressing their strong will to bring their achievements from "Kibo" back to Earth for the benefit of ordinary people.
Furthermore, by choosing a color scheme based on the colors of the sky at dawn, it is symbolizing the hope for the future. Going forward, they will continue to make good use of the ISS and "Kibo."
Astronaut Onishi will be heading out on his second long-term stay on the ISS with this in his mind.
