I wonder if Nicole Ayers had a hand in this design, given the grid/graph and binary for 73. She has a master's degree in computational and applied mathematics. |

I know 1,001,001 is binary for 73, but does it have any other meaning for this flight? Will it for example be the 1 million and one thousand and first orbit of the ISS during the course of the expedition? |

Nothing immediately comes to mind. (With regards to orbits, the ISS has completed approximately 150,000 trips around Earth over the past 25 years.) |

I assume the hexagon and six stars are purposeful... six ISS crew members? |

Astronaut Jessica Meir, commenting on NASA TV as part of the countdown to the Crew-10 launch, described the Expedition 73 patch: The Expedition 73 patch was designed to honor the science and scientists who make space exploration possible. The number 73 is a prime number and a binary palindrome and that is represented at the base of the patch. Seventy-three is also a star number represented by the hexagonal shape of the patch, accented by white stars to symbolize the crew's dedication to space exploration. The grid lines illustrate our earthly perspective from the cosmos. And finally, the ISS, International Space Station, symbolizes humanity's continued collaboration across space and time. According to Meir, Jonny Kim lead the design of the ISS Expedition 73 patch. |
