In 2022, Hungary's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade began HUNOR, the Hungarian to Orbit program, to select a Hungarian to conduct research on board the International Space Station. The campaign identified four finalists: Gyula Cserényi, Tibor Kapu, Ádám Schlégl and András Szakály.

On Monday (May 27), it was announced that Tibor Kapu was selected to fly on a future Axiom Space mission with Gyula Cserényi serving as his backup. As part of the announcement, photos of both men were released wearing a HUNOR emblem and a patch representing the four final candidates.

Regarding the imagery on this patch and the earlier finalists emblem, via X.
In the foreground, we can see the symbolism of the most important myths about the origin of the Hungarian people.

The "Csodaszarvas" is a central figure in the legends surrounding the origin of the Hungarian people. The name translates to "Miraculous Stag." The legend was preserved in the 13th century in the chronicle "Gesta Hunnorum et Hungarorum" by Simon of Kéza.

The story starts with Hunor and Magor (two mythological brothers) out hunting. While out on the steppes, they saw a miraculous white stag (sometimes described as golden). They pursued the animal, but it always stayed ahead of them, leading them westward into Levedia, where they married two princesses and founded the Huns and Hungarian people. (Magor->magyars, Hunor->Huns) The connection between the Huns and Hungarians is often attributed to this shared legend and the two brothers.

The stag is a symbol of guidance to the Hungarians from higher entities and it's a well-known symbol of the origin of the Hungarians.

The four stars probably represent the four initial candidates who got selected in March 2023.
