The ISS-70 logo is with names. Will it be the patch also with names?

Probably a Russian version will be issued and made available first, like for the Expedition 68 and 69 patches with crew names on. There has been no information from any official US sources as yet Jorge.

Thank you Kevin. A pity. I probably ran out of it in my collection. Russia does not sell in Europe and I do not want to collaborate with them as long as the current situation in Ukarania continues... 🥲

These photos came from TsPK. My friend got this patch for me from Oleg Kononenko. All the last week long, Oleg had this patch on his blue training suit.

Many thanks for posting these Expedition 70 patches with the seven crew names on Russian. I assume they are manufactured in Russia and have Velcro backs to them?

They are manufactured by Lucspace according to a demand from Oleg Kononenko. 100 patches produced plus 10 with velcro.

The official description of the patch:
The Expedition 70 patch is designed around the central yin-yang symbol representing balance; first and foremost, the balance of our beautiful planet Earth that is encircled by the yin-yang symbol and which forms part of the Expedition number.

In our exploration of space, we are reminded of the uniqueness of Earth; the further we push the boundaries of human existence, the stronger our longing for our home planet grows. As our understanding of the cosmos expands, so does our understanding of Earth, and although we live in an ever-changing world, we recognize the need for a planet in balance to ensure our future.

Space exploration is also about creating the future of our dreams. The tentative first steps we take today will hopefully become a well-trodden path in the future. This is represented stylistically by the “retro-futuristic” design of the patch, which mimics the design of the posters depicting the future from the early days of the space age. It is also emphasized by the yellow, orange, and red colors suggesting a sunrise.

Lastly, the dynamism in the depiction of the number 7 suggests not only the physical launch into space, but also humanity's progress towards the future.

That's the unofficial "draft" explanation from Andreas Mogensen.

The official text for the first ISS Expedition patch designed by ESA is here:

The patch for Expedition 70, designed by ESA graphic designers Hugo Simões and Hugo Dias, is based on 'yinyang', the well-known philosophical symbol of balance between two complementary forces — yin and yang — that make up all aspects and phenomena of life. In this depiction, the red and orange tones in the lower half of the patch represent science and and the dark blue represents space exploration in the upper half.

The Expedition number '70' is suggested by representations of the Space Station's orbit joined by the plume from a launcher forming the '7' in white, followed by the '0' as a white orbit which, after circling Earth points into the dark background, hinting at future deep-space exploration. Red, white and blue trails join the Space Station orbit, the colours from the flags of the four participating nations (Denmark, Japan, USA and Russia).

Our planet, in blue and white, is surrounded by the white orbital 'swoosh' of the '0', representing the themes of climate research and benefits of science for life on Earth. The four stars represent the four crew members, as well as the four participating nations.

Although there have been Expedition patches designed by European artists before, this is the first time that ESA has provided an Expedition patch design.

Designers are ESA's Hugo Simoes and Hugo Dias.

The names version was provided on request of Oleg Kononenko specifically for the crew and limited production.

Got this photo from Oleg Kononenko. When preparing their EVA they put the ISS-70 patches with names on the Orlan EVA space suits.

AB Emblem have now released the ISS Expedition 70 patch with the 7 crew names on. They are now available to buy direct from their website.

They have the following details on the embedded labels;

  • 461568 A-B Emblem Made In USA 02/24 20
  • 461568 A-B Emblem Made In USA 03/24 20

I notice that the AB Emblem ISS-70 (seven crew names) patches have a much lighter silver/blue border than the mid blue found on the Lucreation version of this patch.

When I look at the white 70 on that patch I see a modern rendering of the old soviet hammer and sickle emblem. I wonder if there is some very subtle geopolitical play at work here?
