Friday's (Sept. 2) spacewalk was not the first time Oleg Artemyev has added numerous patches and pins to his Orlan spacesuit, but it is a good starting place for discussion about the extra patches cosmonauts have worn on EVAs.

Starting from the top, we can see:

  • ISS Expedition 67 patch with crew names
  • Sambo martial arts patch
  • unknown circular patch with rocket?
  • "Plant the Tree" unknown patch
  • leaf-shaped unknown patch
But that is just the start... see the following images for even more patches on both Artemyev's and Denis Matveev's spacesuits and tool kits, as well as lapel pins, a pine cone (?) and small flags.

Patches and pins aside, it's interesting to see the picture of Artemyev's family photo just beneath his helmet in the 4th picture down from the top.

With all the patches, pins, and watches these Russian spacesuits are beginning to look like NASCAR driver suits.

Most of these patches look to be ones Alex Panchenko designed.
