Units take their preliminary designs and get them made by local or overseas vendors until the Institute of Heraldry completes the official design process and the "official" versions get made by Vanguard or AB. That process can take a year or more, unfortunately.

I have a lot of examples of early designs that differ a bit from the final version.

Additionally, lots of units ranging from operating locations to acquisitions deltas get locally approved patches made that never go through the TIOH process.

They will need to remake Delta 5 which had a gray border, into a version with a red border, as it transferred from Space Operations Command (SpOC) to Space Forces Space (S4S).

Also, the provisional Positioning, Navigation and Timing Delta was just redesignated as Delta 31.

Here is something I have noticed that is unique to PVC patches. If they're mailed in a paper envelope without any protection, they can scuff in the process of transport. If you mail them, putting them in a plastic sleeve should eliminate this issue.

Most new PVC patches come in a plastic wrapper.
