Here is a first look at the Soyuz MS-16 mission patch as adorning a cake celebrating the completion of astronaut Chris Cassidy's neutral buoyancy training.Soyuz MS-16 is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station in April 2020 with Cassidy, Nikolai Tikhonov and Andrei Babkin to join Expedition 62/63. |

Similar to Cassidy's earlier Soyuz TMA-08M patch, it is based on the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) logo. Although it is more obvious in this one. |

Does anyone know what the “N” and “H” characters on either side of the Roscosmos logo in the lower right mean, forgive me if it’s obvious what it is but I’ve never seen it before. |

Does anyone have any idea on when we might get to see the actual artwork for the MS-16 patch? Like an actual picture not just a decal from a cake. |

I thought Bowen was backing up Cassidy. Only two names on back up patch. |

There are no names. The words are Cosmodrome Baikonur. As usual on backup patches. |

This patch will need to be changed. Andrei Babkin and Nikolai Tikhonov have been replaced on the crew by Anatoli Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner for medical reasons. |

The Soyuz MS-16 crew patch depicts two of the most challenging elements of the spaceship's mission. The craft is shown just after orbital insertion, preparing to navigate towards its destination; the International Space Station, indicated by a white silhouette. In the background a multi-coloured streak depicts the re-entry of the ship's descent module during its fiery return into Earth's atmosphere. Three stars against the black background of deep space represent the three crew members' journey while the two-toned blue hues in the bottom of the design represent our home planet and all the Earth-based support professionals enabling this mission. They are acknowledged by the position of the crewmembers' names in this part of the design. The spaceship's designation is written across the top of the patch, crowned by the Roscosmos logo. Designed by Luc van den Abeelen. |

Here is the 3-piece Soyuz MS-16 souvenir set — banner, decal, and pin — from RKK Energia. I acquired the set through a friend in Russia. |
