I come across this image from time to time, and I'm rather curious. NASA calls it the Pioneer 10/11 mission patch in the NSSDCA, and the image is borrowed on sites like Wikipedia, but I don't see it anywhere else. It appears physical patches were made at one point, but I wonder how many, and how long ago the supply dried up. Has anyone seen one in person? |

Though clearly a different run, Duane King (who ran the successful Kickstarter for the replica Pioneer plaque) has reproductions of this patch and another for sale. |

Yikes, it looks like A-B Emblem worked off of the Duane King version instead of the original because it's a pale comparison to the original in accuracy and detail. |

I have this original and large patch that I will try to locate as Pioneer 10/11 are at the top of my favorite all-time deep space probes. The program patch I have is vintage (not a reproduction of any kind) from the early 1970's. It had been gifted to me by a Pioneer launch team member from Launch Complex 36. Just from a quick glance, the fabric used on that first patch depiction in my opinion looks exactly like the original I have. |

Does anyone know what the original size was of this patch, 3 inch, 4 inch, or somewhere in between? After looking at both replicas from above one is a 3 inch diameter and the other is a 4 inch diameter. In my opinion a replica should be true to size of the original and will help with determining which one I purchase. |

Looks like there's another vintage version out there and based on the way Jupiter was detailed, this might be the one that A-B Emblem emulated, though there are still differences in the probe itself. This is a 4" patch with a cheesecloth back. |

It's hard not having the patch referred to in front of my eyes, but mine was at least 6" diameter (it was a large issue) and may had been used on the back of a launch team member's jacket. |
