The patch design number for this latest revised six crew names Expedition 55 AB Emblem patch is: 285121 Made In USA 9/17/20 and 10/1720 date codes.Update: There is a batch of these patches that are without any embedded labels on the backs of them, or on the cellophane packets they were packaged in. They were probably produced sometime in July and or August 2017. I have also acquired a cellophane packet for these Expedition 55 patches with 285121 Made In USA 9/17/20 date code on the patches, but the label attached to the cellophane packet has; 285121 S, Made In USA, 10/17/20 date code. |

This simplified version is also on the back of the Tingle made challenge coin. |

It seams that during March and into April this year, AB Emblem have been experimenting with the Expedition 55 patches. If you look above at the production date codes, three different runs were made during the early part of March with patch design number 285121 and A-B Emblem labels. They were; - 0318 55 (USA) the astronaut batch made on the "Sample machine".
- 3/18/20 the March full production run made at Weaverville, USA.
- 03/1840 the first full production run made in China.
Then, it has just been discovered that also during March a new patch design number 293197 was used to make changes to the design of the Expedition 55 patches. The outer red and yellow border was made much thinner and the border was changed from a red merrowed stitched border to a laser cut border. Also the text used for the crew names was made thinner. Three short production runs were made in March and early April with A-B Emblem labels. - 3/1855 (Prototype patch)
- 0318 55 (Sample patch) the same date code as the astronaut batch.
- 4/18 20 (First short production run made at Weaverville, USA)
These are the only three date code patches that I know about with the laser cut border and the thinner text for the crews names. The latest full production run for the Expedition 55 patches has gone back to the previous patch design number and the red merrowed edge border. - 285121 A-B Emblem + Made In China 07/1840
The top two patches are the ones from the crew batch with the original 285121 patch design number and merrowed edge border, both with 0318 55 date code from the "sample machine". The middle two patches are the prototype and sample patches with the laser cut border, and the new patch design number 293197 with date codes 3/1855 and 0318 55. The bottom patch is the earliest known example of this ISS-55 with patch design number 283148 Made In USA 8/17/20 date code (August 2017). This one is possibly a prototype patch with a thick yellow inner border. |

A fourth date code has come to light with the new SKU patch design number 293197 on, which has the laser cut border. - 293197 A-B Emblem 8/18 20 (USA)
The patch example I have seen in a photo on eBay, was one of possibly ten of these patches issued to astronaut Scott Tingle, who flew on the Expedition 55 mission. He give this patch to the current owner just after the mission ended.I have a feeling this was another small production run made for NASA personal, as I have not seen or had reported any of the laser cut Expedition 55 patches for sale in any numbers anywhere as yet. Also this is the latest date code, August 2018 to be seen so far too. The previous date code was 07/1840 made in China with SKU 285121 with the thicker red stitched merrowed border. These are the Expedition 55 patches which were on sale at most NASA facilities, before the current stage three operational status shutdown. I will add a back image photo/scan of this ISS-55 8/18 20 patch soon. |
