Soyuz MS-03 mission patchRussia's Soyuz MS-03 will launch to the International Space Station in November 2016. Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, NASA's Peggy Whiston and Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency (ESA) will join the Expedition 50/51 crew. The Soyuz MS-03 crew patch uses the classical shield shape; the origin of this type of emblem. The flags of the countries represented on this international space mission, the name of the spacecraft and the Roscosmos logo crown the design. Three animals symbolize each of the crew members occupying three quadrants, while the fourth houses the spaceship, depicted flying towards the space station's docking target. The eagle is taken from the state seal of Iowa, birth state of US crew member Whitson; the Zubr buffalo from Belorussia represents the Russian commander's origins and a lion to show the Normandy origins of French astronaut Pesquet. Designed by Luc van den Abeelen. © Roscosmos/spacepatches.nl. |

One interesting reaction about this logo from Dmitry Payson on Facebook: The interesting thing is that this one is a second mission patch in a row with the very clear Christian motives. Compare Tabor Mountain from the previous patch with three evangelical animals (Lion, Taurus, Eagle) on this one. Is this a coincidence? Luc, could we ask you to answer? I know Oleg Novitskiy came to Baikonur for the launch of TMA-20M. Alexei Ovchinin is his friend. And Oleg liked very much the patch of his friend and decided to have his crew's logo also in heraldic design. |

It is not so much a coincidence as the Soyuz MS-03 patch design features a number of animals: a lion, a buffalo (not a taurus) and an eagle. They are used to refer to the origins of the crewmembers, not as religious symbols. |

Got information Roscosmos and TsENKI will not order souvenir patches for Baikonur. Only TsENKI will order MS-03 pins and magazines like for the MS-02 launch (40 pages).TsENKI also ordered MS-03 table medals for their operational team. Only 70 I was told. For MS-02 TsENKI produced ISS-50 and MS-02 souvenir patches and pins as well as MS-02 table medals for operational teams. |

For the MS-03 launch TsENKI will produce only 45 table medals for their operational team and magazines of better quality than the MS-02 magazine. No patches, no pins... |

A so-called TsENKI version of this MS-03 patch has been listed on eBay by a Russian seller. It looks possible as there are a few very subtle differences from the above spacepatches.nl patches.Update: The listing has now been cancelled at 17:26pm GMT, and relisted as a Roscosmos patch at 17:45pm GMT. |

Once more! No patches were produced by TsENKI for the MS-03 launch. Those who have too much money can buy whatever they want. Please, Jacques, Erik or Luc from collectSPACE, state here it is your patch. It is not for the first time some sellers from Russia try to give wrong information so as to increase prices. Mind your step, friends!

Looks like our patch - probably the bare back version (no plastic) made for the spacesuits. |

Some of my past customers have contacted me recently to ask about TsENKI MS-03 patches. Unfortunately, based on the very best information that I have received from friends with contacts within Roscosmos and Baikonur, there have been no MS-03 patches produced by TsENKI. The only official MS-03 patch is the Roscosmos suit version produced by Spacepatches.nl.The exact mix of future TsENKI mission products (patches, pins and magazines) seems to be under Roscosmos review right now, and I will pass along any new information here that I receive about these items. Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Luc, maybe somebody in Russia like our Malaysian friend produced this lopsided version... but in any case it is not TsENKI. |
