The patch clearly depicts an Apollo mission from launch to lunar landing to parachute reentry, however I can't think of what the "3-8-5" represent. I am not sure that the 8 is for Apollo 8 as it depicts a lunar landing. It's a very old patch, pre 1980 based on the embroidery and construction used. Any ideas? ![](http://i.imgur.com/3RgIO94.jpg) ![](http://i.imgur.com/r7oJx7m.jpg)

The construction is much more primitive than what you would expect for a patch made in 2003, though. |

I'm no expert, but thought I would throw some ideas out there. Is the "35" relevant to any Navy units, commands, etc? The style, to me, looks like some of the Vietnam-era squadron, ship, aircraft, etc., patches that I've seen. |

I could find no Navy ship nor aircraft squadron (either helicopter or fixed wing) designation of 35 that had anything to do with the Apollo 8 mission at all. quote: Originally posted by Liembo: The construction is much more primitive than what you would expect for a patch made in 2003, though.
I have a patch that was made 6 months ago that looks a lot like how this one was made. It all depends on who made the thing. |

Did 385 come up as anything to do with any of of the Apollo flights? |

If you have a patch made 6 months ago that uses this style of embroidery, I'd be really interested in knowing where you acquired it. That would allow me to produce that STS-61E and Black Cat replica as near perfect as possible (using old Swiss Schiffli machines) instead of modern multi-head machines. As far as I know (and believe me, I've been searching) there aren't any left in the USA. There might be one tucked away in India or China, but I'm not having luck finding them...It's not so much the machine, but programming the paper tape that guides them. |

Don't know what it is, but triangular patches are used for Navy aviation wings and groups. |

I'm wondering if it was for a tracking or recovery ship? The only Navy ship I can find with 385 is the USS Bang (SS-385) but she wasn't part of the Apollo program. And the patch seems to show the Apollo CM landing in the Atlantic. As far as I know, Apollo 7 and 9 were the only ones to land in the Atlantic. |

And also shows the LM landing in Mare Crisium which, as far as I know, never happened. ![](http://www.collectspace.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) |

The fine folks of the Facebook group "Scout Patch Collectors" have narrowed it down to being a neckerchief patch from two possible BSA Troops in Florida! Troop 385 of Indialantic and Troop 35 of Jacksonville. Indialantic is very close to KSC so that's probably the origin. Thank you all for your awesome suggestions. |

If one of those blue stars had been a fleur-de-lis it would probably be a Boy Scouts patch. But no "BSA" lettering nor mention of any group event makes it highly unlikely that this novelty patch had anything to do with Scouting. |

For what it's worth (and being a former Scout), the BSA symbol or words don't necessarily have to be on a Troop patch. Any combination of words, numbers or designs will do. If you google 'Boy Scout troop patches,' you get a lot of variations. So it would not be surprising that this patch belongs to a Fla. troop. |
