Does anyone recognize this Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum patch? What is it and what is the symbol in the center? ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/gacspaceguy/nasm_patch01.jpg) |

The orbital path reminds me of Ulysses, but the probe does not (at least not identically). |

Maybe it's a stylistic representation of Voyager or Pioneer. |

Hello! I work at the National Air and Space Museum and I can tell you that the object in the middle of the patch is an overhead view of the 1903 Wright Flyer. I have to admit though, that the in question image does look something like a deep space probe! |

When the Smithsonian opened the (then) new flagship Air and Space building on the Washington, D.C. Mall in 1976, I got one of these patches. I have never seen another example until now. I had my mother sew the patch on a baseball cap. You can see from the photo that it got a lot of use.Note the differences between my original version and the apparently new copy pictured in the opening post. The central artwork is oriented differently relative to the text. The thread direction on the Earth also looks to be different. ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/rocketman/NASM-patch-hat.jpg) |

Thanks. I do not think the one I have is new. I was found in a collection of an older fellow, who passed away. It was amoung all of his Boy Scout patches.Intersting in the variations though. |
