Soyuz TMA-12M mission patch

Soyuz TMA-12M will launch for the International Space Station with cosmonauts Aleksandr Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev of Roscosmos and NASA astronaut Steven Swanson in March 2014.

The Soyuz TMA-12M mission patch shows the entire cycle of the spacecraft's flight. Liftoff is depicted showing the launch vehicle from a dramatic angle, flying into a starry sky towards the silhouette of the International Space Station. The six larger stars represent the six-member crew of ISS.

The scene is framed by the Soyuz landing apparatus, suspended under the large canopy of the main parachute. The crew names are incorporated in the orange bands on the white parachute.

Designed and 'translated' into an embroidered patch by Luc van den Abeelen for the Soyuz TMA-12M crew and, as was the case with the prior 20 Soyuz patches SpacePatches.nl produced as part of the 'Soyuz Crew Graphics Support Team', I had the honor to prepare the final digital version of the artwork and Jacques van Oene personally printed the stickers which will be used by the crew.

What a great patch. Original design, bright colours, clear narrative. Excellent work!

LOVE the rocket, very rare on Soyuz patches.

Awesome job guys. It's difficult to come up with a new unique design - and yet you do.

Great design! So, is there a meaning to the 16 smaller stars?

If I'm not too far away of the 'Soyuz Crew Graphics Support Team,' 16+6=22 (TMA).

Not that I am aware of any deeper meaning of the number of small stars, but there are 17.
