Walt Cunningham has unveiled an Apollo 7 45th Anniversary Patch and Tribute to Apollo 1 on his website. The original concept for this patch was developed before the flight of Apollo 7 but was turned down by NASA. In time for the 45th anniversary of the flight of Apollo 7, this patch has been re-imagined with the help of Tim Gagnon and is now available autographed by Walt Cunningham or unsigned, both with COA and are numbered to the production run of 250 patches. This patch is also hallmarked for authenticity. This patch is ONLY available through Walt's website and will not be offered anywhere else including his public appearances. |

The tribute to Apollo 1 is also a very nice gesture. Can't wait to receive mine, too.Still can't believe it's been 45 years since Apollo 7 first flew. It seems like only yesterday. I'll have the same feeling for Apollo 8. I remember being in the hospital for splashdown and refusing to leave until I knew they were down and safe. |

Walt was pretty funny last night. He e-mailed me that he and Dot went out to dinner only to come home to a mailbox full of patch orders. No rest for the weary! |

50 is too long to wait... let's go for 46th! The card really was a big surprise, too. It is very beautiful and the history of the patch is great to display with it. |

I was VERY impressed with the card COA. You don't get things like that with any type of patch. |

I haven't been able to find an actual photo of the patch, just the artwork as seen on cS and WC's home page. Can anyone post an image of the real deal? Thanks. |

Have fun finding the hallmark!I think the Phoenix/flame is the best part of the patch. Tim and Jorge did an incredible job. A big thanks to Walt for making it available to the masses [or 250 of the masses] |

I received my signed patch yesterday, and as everyone has stated, it's really nice. However, my COA wasn't signed, was it supposed to be? |

My COA was not signed either. I think they're numbered only.I think the hallmark is easy to see. A nice touch.I really like the "stained glass" look of the bird in the designs Ed posted above. But I think the design of the final patch does a better job of showing the program (in the Saturn V and moon elements) rising out of the successful flight of Apollo VII. |

OK, where did you get the Al Stevens patch? Or is it something super rare I will never see? |

The Al Stevens set Apollo 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 17 and Skylab 2 was a very limited edition set I managed a number of years ago. Stevens was a graphic artist who designed the 1, 7, 9 and 10 patches. The set was based on draft designs that were not chosen. It was a one time offer and will not be repeated. |

The COA's are not signed, but contain the matching number to the patch. |

collectSPACE Alternate Apollo 7: Astronaut's anniversary patch recalls 'Flight of the Phoenix' Forty-six years ago this week, NASA's first Apollo astronauts to launch into space were circling the Earth — just as their mission patch depicted. The insignia showed the Apollo 7 spacecraft, including the command and service module, in an inclined elliptical orbit flying above the planet. The circular emblem captured the goal of the 11-day flight: to test the new spacecraft during a "shakedown cruise" to prove it was ready to fly crews to the moon. As appropriate as the design may have been, it was not what the crew initially envisioned as representing all of the aspects of their mission. |

A superb tribute... As I think about it, the Saturn V launch vehicle was rarely used in patch designs. |
