NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft pilots museum ferry flight patchesBeginning in April 2012, NASA's modified Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) will be embarking on its final space shuttle ferry flights, delivering orbiters Discovery (OV-103), Enterprise (OV-101) and Endeavour (OV-105) to Washington, DC, New York and Los Angeles for public display. To mark this milestone, the SCA pilots had designed flight patches. According to the emblem's artist Tony Landis, "they wanted to have something special just for them, which is why each design has the 747 SCA included." Only 300 sets of the three patches were produced for the pilots, to be distributed as they fly the space shuttles to their museum displays. Discovery's patch features the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, as well as the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the Donald D. Engen Tower at its Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where the shuttle will go on display. Weather permitting, the SCA will fly Discovery to Washington Dulles International Airport on April 17, 2012. Enterprise's patch adapts the same design and colors as the 1977 Approach and Landing Test program logo, which first paired a shuttle with the SCA. Enterprise will be flown to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on April 23, 2012, to await being barged this summer to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Endeavour's patch features an overhead view of the shuttle riding piggyback on the 747 as they fly into the sunset, completing more than 800 flights for NASA 905, the original shuttle carrier aircraft. Endeavour is targeted to depart for Los Angeles International Airport and the California Science Center in September 2012. |

Very neat! I'd love to get a set to hang on the wall next to ours. Hopefully they won't be TOO rare. |

Are they going to be available as a set, or one at a time to coincide with the appropriate ferry flight? Beautiful patches. The Enterprise looks almost exactly like the sketch Hart sent me. |

One set of these three patches has been sold so far on eBay, they reached $366 with 19 bids from 8 bidders.Maybe a few more sets or single patches will be listed on eBay again by those who have been given a set from the original 300 produced? It will also be interesting to see if any of these patches, or sets of patches, will be available to buy at each or any of the museum landing sites, or in the museum shops themselves? Time will tell on this one. |

Maybe a set (or sets) can be offered up for sale by the ASF with signatures in a presentation by each orbiter's first and last commander (in the case of Enterprise, both Haise and Engle should sign)? Nice set to own for a good cause. |

As the seller of those patches, that was far more than I ever expected. I felt a little guilty about the high price (even if they were flown on the SCA) that I included some other SCA flown patches and flags from other flights and also included a hard to find 'Orbiters On Display' lapel pin. I hope the buyer will be happy with what they receive.I did see that someone else has acquired a set of (unflown) patches and they are on eBay now at about $100. |

As the buyer of the patches, I really do appreciate the extras that were included, haven't received the patches yet but I certainly look forward to them with anticipation. It is much appreciated. When bidding I knew exactly what I was doing and was willing to pay a hefty price. There are only 300 of these patch sets out there and I really wanted one for my collection. I have no intention to re-sell them. |

I called the gift shop at Edwards Air Force Base and ordered a full set of these as well as the SCA patch for just five dollars each. All you need is a credit card, call them at 661-276-2113 or 661 276-2140.A very nice lady took my order and I warned her to expect more calls. She knew about the first set on eBay and how much it went for. |

The DFRC gift shop only received about a dozen of these patches and they are completely sold out now. They will be placing another order for them and will have them in about 3-4 weeks. If you call, they will put your name on their waiting list and contact you once they are available again. |

That's odd because I talked to them less than an hour ago and the lady there said she was holding the patches I wanted and said they'd go out by tomorrow... |

They sold out in a half hour after this was posted. I was told they are expecting some more in about three weeks. |

The delivery patches were originally designed by me for the 747 SCA crew. The original order was for 300 patches, the Dryden gift shop put in a last minute request for 200 as well but those were earmarked to be given away to VIP's in DC. They did sell about a dozen or so to the public recently, the rest were put on board 905 which is now headed for Florida and DC. Due to their popularity I was asked to order another 200 for the gift shop which will be available in about 3-4 weeks. So, for at least the first two deliveries, the only patches available are the ones being sold by the 747 SCA crew and the ones that occasionally come up on eBay. Hope that helps. |

Is there an e-mail address for the gift shop too? It would be easier for orders from overseas to contact them via e-mail. |

So is that 700 total (300 from the original order, 200 for the first gift shop order and another 200 for the gift shop), or 700 sets of all three (or 2100 patches)? Just curious on the numbers and availability. |

700 sets of all 3. Total of 2100 patches. The patches that the SCA crews will be selling were on board the 747 SCA for the flight to Florida today and will probably be on board for the delivery of Discovery if they have any left by then. |

Having received the patches I bought on eBay from cS forum member X-Plane Fan I thought a word of thanks and apreciation would be in order. Not only did I receive the earlier mentioned three SCA patches but also two SCA flown US Flags, another flown SCA of America patch and an unflown shuttle on diplay pin and a SCA phantom patch. Absolutely wonderful and I would say great value for the money. Thank you so much. I'll make a great presentation piece out of all this. All I need now is the latest official patch to complete it. |

I just ordered a set today. They take your shipping information and call you when they have product available. Then take your credit card information at that time. The woman I talked to said it should be 2-3 weeks. Very courteous, too. |

I called earlier last week. They said they were out and I placed on this list. Then they called me, when they found some additional patches. I received them last part of the week. Great patches and DFRC's staff is outstanding!! |

Here's a photo from today showing a shuttle team member wearing the Discovery patch while working under the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. All three patches were also seen inside the flight ops office at the Shuttle Landing Facility. |

Anyone get any calls yet? They told me 2-3 weeks on the 11th when I called. I know kurnass called to get on the list about the same time I originally called and they called him back right away when they found some. So I'm just wondering if anyone has received a call yet to tell us whether they've received the additional 200 sets. |

The patches have not yet arrived. The patch company really dropped the ball on the reorder so we're still waiting for them to arrive. Could be two more weeks, but I'm trying to get them to speed things up a bit since there are plenty of people waiting on them. For those that keep track of the minor variations in patches, you should know that the Enterprise patch will now have gray thread in the 747 wing instead of blue and the Endeavour patch will be 1/2 inch larger. No change to the Discovery one. |

Which then begs the question, how do we find the originals without the "variations"? |

Seems pretty obvious to me, you deal with the secondary market (other dealers and eBay) or go to a shuttle move in person as soon as you can and hope to grab one of the patches from the crew if they still have them. I don't see any other alternatives. |

How can we in the UK get a set of there patches? We in the UK and the rest of the planet look to be getting left out as we here cannot get to see the shuttles going to there new houses or get the patches. |

I just got off the phone with the Dryden gift shop and was told the patches are a week to 10 days out. Also, if you gave your contact information to "Linda", she will be out until mid-June so you need to be proactive in calling them. |

For everyone that has these patches on order with DFRC, the patches have just arrived at my home and will be delivered to the gift shop first thing Monday morning. I'm sure they will get a note off to everyone on the waiting list. Sorry for the delay in getting these done, 'Murphy's Law' was in full swing on this reorder. |
