The very grateful artist and the astronaut who teamed up to make this poject possible. Dot took the photo yesterday at the ASF Show. I told Walt how the collecting community was appreciative that he authorized this project and then priced it to make it possible for every collector to purchase them. If you haven't ordered one you better hurry - there are only a few left. |

I agree, I had no idea of this. It was surprising to see that there are still some for sale. I'd have thought these patches would have vanished right away. 300 isn't that big a number. I'm not that big a patch collector but I ordered one as at some point, I'd probably regret not doing so as I'm a big fan of any patches that are as close to the original art as possible... |

Agreed. Considering these were available starting 3 years ago and only 300 were made, I too was VERY surprised that they weren't all gone. I figured these would be snatched up quick. And why I ordered two - Apollo being my main area of interest, I would regret not being able to get these. If they had been gone, I'd be looking to other collectors to see if they could "share" one. We'll have to see what our numbers are now when they arrive! |

I guess as Apollo 7 isn't exactly as well known at the later missions, this is the primary reason the patches didn't get sold out right away. If it'd been, say, 11 or 13, I bet those would have been sold out within a day or two... quote: Originally posted by Gonzo: We'll have to see what our numbers are now when they arrive!
You got it. I'll post my # when mine arrives. |

I went and ordered an extra one, I wonder how many were sold between my first post and this time!!I am glad I posted about it so a couple more collectors have a chance to grab them. And it was so amazing to get an envelope with Walt's return (home) address on it. That was rather special to me. |

Bought two of these when they were originally released. They're beautiful patches, and yeah, it was fun getting mail from Walt Cunningham. |

I got mine two years ago (No. 225). I cut out and kept Walt Cunningham's address sticker! It is surprising though, that they never sold out quicker. |

I'm cautious on agreeing that Walt is wondering why he's getting a rush on new orders. If he's as smart as I think he is and if he is as attuned to the collectors (us!) as I think he is, he's probably reading this thread. Maybe, maybe not. But I wouldn't be surprised if he was.Either way, my patches came today. Numbers 268 and 269. The entire lot is going in my collection - the patches, the COA's and even the envelopes! Thanks Walt! Now to be honest, I've been collecting for well over 20 years. Got my first patch in June, 1989, I think. For those of you that have said these are beautiful patches, THESE are the reason I started collecting in the first place. These rate up there with some of the best patches I've seen. And in 20+ years, I've seen quite a few. And these rate as two of the best I've seen. They are just so well done. The details are amazing. The Service Module in particular has details that are amazing to see in just thread. So for those of you that have ordered in the last few days, you won't be disappointed! |

I got my second today, #270. Also received a Lion Bros. Apollo 11 from eBay. A good Apollo day! And, yes, I too am agreeing with Gonzo that these have to be the best quality patch ever made. I would love to have all of the Apollo patches made to this accuracy. It has nothing to do with rather they are vintage or not to me, just accurate. I hope Mr. Cunningham does read the thread and sees how happy he has made us all!! |

Out of curiosity as I've not seen it posted, who made these patches? I'd assume AB, but the quality is more in line with TAE.Anyone? |

I recently purchased one of these patches and I am very happy with it! My certificate was also unsigned so I sent it back to Walt thinking it was an oversight. However, I received the certificate back today from him, still unsigned, but with a note that he signed some of the COA's initially, but he shouldn't have. I am not sure who is advising him, but I am okay with that. Not sure if there are any left, but if there are grab one while you can. They're wonderful! |

Just curious, does anyone know if he numbered the backs of the patches himself or the letters than came with them? Not that it's that big a deal, I was just curious... |

Excellent advice, so I just did I've always been a fan of Apollo 7. I have one of Florian's pieces of flown exercise cord, so this will go nicely with it. |

We can tell if they are all gone if you'd post your number. Walt (and Tim) limited the release to just 300. The last number I heard being received was 276, so with these couple that were just ordered he should be over 280 now. Also, when I received my 2 (#268 and 269, both COA's were not signed)), I sent Walt a letter thanking him for the patch, what he did for the space program and the wonder he still evokes in me when I look up at the night sky and wonder... I haven't received a reply. And that's not a big deal. I just wanted him to know how much I appreciate everything he's done.

Had a nice chat with Walt Cunningham last night. He wanted me to mention that the limited edition remake of the original Apollo 7 patch that you could only buy on his website has indeed sold out. For those of you who have a numbered signed version, you have a great new collectable. For those with an unsigned patch, you, too, have a nice new collectable. Walt asked me to extend his thanks to all who bought one.His website is due for revision soon. Look for some new goodies in the near future. Also, his autobiography, "The All American Boys" is now available on Audible.com as an unabridged audio book narrated by Walt. He also mentioned that the Apollo 7 covers signed by all three crew members have sold out but he will soon make available covers from his personal collection that were signed by he and Wally. This October will be the 45th anniversary of Apollo 7 (seems like yesterday). Look for a surprise or two coming in time for the anniversary. |

While listening to the closing chapters of "The All-American Boys" the other day while driving home - the audiobook has been a companion on several road trips - I got to thinking again about what a good friend Walt (and Dot) Cunningham has been to those of us in the hobby. The audiobook is wonderful, and the limited-edition patch was first-rate while still being affordable. I don't know if Walt and Dot look in on this forum, but I hope they know how much they are appreciated, and the gratitude that exists for what they have to offer. |
