Along the same lines as the Lunar Surface Systems logo, here is the Constellation Ground Operations insignia: |

I do like the Constellation Systems and Operations insignia. I do hope they all come out as patches. They just look so good. |

Agree completely. Mike Okuda really scored with the whole Constellation motif... It's so versatile. |

Is this the same Michael Okuda that work on Star Trek's control panels, computer readout for the show and did a number of books? If it is, I am not that surprised they are so good. His work is great. We've been looking at it for years. |

Yes, the same Mike Okuda of Star Trek fame is responsible for the core of the Constellation Program emblems. |

Thanks, all, for the kind words about my work for the Constellation team. Robert, I'm amazed at your sources! I didn't think that either the Ground Ops or the Lunar Surface Systems emblem had been released publicly! |

Welcome, Mike! I've been a fan of your work ever since I got the TNG Technical Manual as a kid. The Constellation designs are super cool, and this one is no exception. Is there any significance to the number of stars in this design? |

Hello Mike, this is SUCH an honor to have you hear with us on collectSPACE! Your designs for the Constellation program are vibrant and amazingly original. I know that the Constellation program also has a Mission Operations project. Do you Mike or maybe Robert knows if there is any logo that was designed for that project or was it just the revision for the Mission Operations logo that was already in existence? Thanks and a big welcome to you Mike! |

To the best of my knowledge, the Ground Ops insignia just made its public debut as part of this interactive presentation.I do not believe the Lunar Surface Systems insignia has been used yet (at least not by NASA Public Affairs) but I have had both in a source-provided insignia file for some time now... |

Mr. Meek: The ten stars in the Constellation emblems represent the ten NASA centers. Constellation manager Jeff Hanley wanted to emphasize the teamwork across the the entire agency that is required for such an ambitious project. |

Plus, it should be mentioned, the outstanding recent STS-125 patch. |

Now do we know if a patch exists of this Ground Ops logo, even if only internally at NASA for the project members? We all know that a patch is not out for the general public but just curious if one was made anyhow. Just so we can keep track of official Constellation patches to date. For instance we know that the Lunar Surface Systems patch does exist and was flown aboard Discovery on STS-119 but is still not out for the public for purchase. So just curious about this real nice Ground Ops logo so if anyone has anymore info on it please pass it along. Thanks again guys! |

Well I just discovered the answer to my own question as I just looked at the Official Flight Kit Manifest for STS-127. It lists that there were 6 Constellation Ground Ops patches that were flown on the mission. So we now know that a Ground Operations Project patch for the Constellation program exists but only in circulation internally at NASA for project members and the like. However, the patch is not available to the general public as of now. |
