Soyuz TMA-15 commander, Roscosmos cosmonaut Roman Romanenko spoke with collectSPACE about his May 2009 flight. Continuing a tradition established by the Soyuz TMA-14 crew, he said that the Soyuz TMA-15 patch was based on designs by children. The art he chose was submitted by Yura Menkevich, 15, from the Kemerovo region of Russia. |

That's outstanding!!! I liked that design when I first saw it for the TMA-14 contest. I hope the young artist gets the same trip the last one received. |

Erik, Are you going to make this patch as you did for the Soyuz TMA-14 patch? I received mine and it looks great! Thanks for your time! |

I notice the 'XV' and 'Soyuz TMA' have changed from blue to white. Was the patch worn at the photo op at top of thread an early version? |

Yes. The crew picture was taken on February 12, when the final artwork had not yet been fully finished. |

This Soyuz patch is way better than TMA-14's design in my opinion. |

Yura (who has been living in an orphanage for the past two years, following the death of his father) has been awarded a medal from his own region for his drawing. |

A small news item about our Yura and his orphanage. In Russian, but still very touching. Also, here is a magazine article (translated through Google, so a bit difficult to read here and there). |

Yura's talent is obvious. This patch is one of the best I have ever seen (and I've seen quite a few).My compliments to everyone involved in this project. |

I agree. I think this is the best Soyuz patch I have ever seen. I love how they've done the flags around the edge with the space agency logos, and the overall colour scheme is fantastic. |

And here is a glimpse of the back up patch. No flags and no names - just the red circle, the ESA, Roscosmos and Canadian logos and six larger stars. |

And here... is the pair of embroidered patches. The TMA-15 prime and back-up crews will have their exams in the Soyuz and ISS simulators at Star City early next week (Tuesday May 5 and Wednesday May 6).

LOVE them! Will both be available for sale on your site, or just the prime? I'd love to have one of each. |

We are somewhat restricted openly advertising it. Making these children's patches was not intended to be a "commercial" activity. Being collectors ourselves though, we asked - and were granted - permission to sell a limited number of extra's we have to fellow collectors. If you are interested in a TMA-15 patch, you can send an email to: order@spacepatches.nl |

Thank you Erik for those kindly words. I only did help you to finish a great idea. All the merit is yours. But I'm so happy indeed to have been involved in your project. Thank you so much to you, my friends. |

With the ship now safely arrived on station, here is a small description of the TMA-15 patch and it's design. For those of you who missed Yura Menkevich on the balkony of MCC Moscow (remember the winners of the previous contest, Anna Chibiskova and Stanislav Pyatkin, talking and singing to the crew following the TMA-14 docking) - he had to return to his hometown in West-Siberia early to prepare for exams. |
