I found something at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's The Space Shop that I had not seen before — a decal packaged with an info sheet that describes itself as the personal patch of STS-107 Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon. It's different however, from the patches I have seen before and yet is claimed to be the one that he designed for himself.Without my scanner on this trip, a quick web search revealed a site with the embroidered version of the decal I now own. I checked both NASA's Human Spaceflight Gallery and Kennedy Space Center's Media Archive and was unable to find a picture showing Ramon wearing this — or for that matter, any — personal emblem during the mission. Have I missed a photo? Was there more than one patch? Or are all (of the three or so designs I have seen) commemorative in nature? |

SpaceFacts.de has an image of another personal patch design, which they credit to spacepatches.info. |

That is pretty interesting, thanks Robert. I never saw that before. If Robert hasn't seen it, chances are that nobody else here saw it either. How much was the patch? |

I'm not sure as to the background of this patch, but I have seen this one before, as I happen to have one. I bought it in Florida while visiting the Cape for a scout outing when I lived in Georgia back in 2003. Found it in a shop in Cocoa Beach. Not sure if the one I have would be considered a replica or not. As I mentioned, I don't know its background myself, but it is a nice design. |

I've seen that emblem before, I purchased a decal and information sheet in 2003:I've never seen an image of Ramon wearing a personal patch but until we can prove otherwise, we'll have to accept that he did design this first one you saw as his own. I also have the second one. Purchased it from Space World in Cocoa Beach in 2003. |

I bought the patch mentioned by Robert in July 2005 directly from an Israel ebay seller who himself collected/collects all items related to that STS-107 mission. He told me that this patch is made in Israel. There is another version of that patch that seems to be a replication and is slightly larger. I am not able to remember from where I bought this. Concerning the second patch -the round one- a second version also exist. |

I paid a visit to Space World in Merritt Island the morning of July 21st and got the mentioned patch. The picture links in here do not work so I didn't know what it looked like, but realized it was the one described in the handout with the Jewish symbols etc. and was very glad to find it there. I was specifically looking for some of the more obscure patches (including that one) in that shop and I was not disappointed. |

I've updated the expired site links. Here is the scan of the decal I first wrote about five years ago: |
