Just a new idea: Randy remembered me that 2006 is the 25th year of the Space Shuttle, and told me about of making a patch... well, this is my original idea for the celebration. Perhaps between all of members we'll get a good patch!

The hexagon represents the six shuttles, incluiding the Enterprise in contour lines, the Hubble, as part of the scientific success of this years, a shuttle launch from Florida, the red shape part of the NASA emblem, in the upper side of the patch, the ISS, Mars and the Moon as the next step, and the protagonist (the astronauts) symbol.
The Ursa Major (Great Bear) represents the major number of astronauts on each flight, and a special dedicate to the two lost crews: the apple and the Star of David, one for each team.

NICE WORK!

One (very minor) change I'd make: I'd feature Columbia and Challenger across the top, not only to commemorate their loss, but b/c they were the first to fly. Awesome design overall.

BTW, I've got to believe that NASA has some sort of commemorative design planned for the April STS-1 anniversary. Anyone out there aware of anything?

Yes, I have seen at least one design that will be used and will be able to share it soon, but it is STS-1 specific and doesn't reference the shuttle in general.

KAPTEC-

Beautiful work! I like how you've represented the entire shuttle program. I'm thinking about doing something also. Got to get my muse up and running.

Or if you're like me, wait 'til next year, for the 30th anniversary of the shuttle - since Enterprise's ALT flights happened in 1977.

I'm agree, Kevin, but I wrote all shuttle names "looking into" the patch, but Columbia and Challenger "looking outside"... (I'd forget to explain it)
Thanks for your comments

My only change would be to add the Mir Space Station. I think it was a wonderful time having the shuttle dock with Mir!

I thought on it, but I decided to represent both sations only with the ISS, and the cosmonauts, along with the astronauts, with the Symbol and the color of the flags, (red-blue-withe)not covering the patch with too much more elements.
(Really it's imposible to add all that I would like to do)

There are one aple, one Star of David, and the other five have a gold border each one, as "double stars". I tryed to represent both crews in that simply way... Seven stars for 51L, seven stars for STS107, one symbol for each mission, and both joined in its tragedy.

Shouldn't it be six stars with the gold to double..that would be the twelve plus the apple and star of david to equal 14..unless I'm missing something..

You're not missing anything.
The apple doens't it for Christa alone... it is for the entire crew, as the star not is for Illian alone, but his entire crew. Do you understand me now?

Most crews were 7 astro/cosmonauts. Not only the lost ones will be in the patch.
I think that all of them MUST be there but... do you know how?

It's an awesome design..I'd go in on it to help have it made...keep it limited in terms of the number of patches available..

How can I do that?
(I think that in the patch are ALL the flag colors of the different countries participated... do you remember any one who is not?)

I think the patch looks fantastic. The symbolism with the different areas - Enterprise not being forgotten, Apple, Star of David and all are great. The addition of Mir would be a big plus. My concern then goes with the size of the patch and how small the details would end up being. It is really a space problem. Maybe it would be good to combine a few elements somehow. One that jumps to mind is combining the astronaut emblem with shuttle - the flames being the three bars, have the golden ring encircle the shuttle, and the star placed above with maybe the 25 inside the star. Mir and ISS could be on either side. I have not drawn it out to see what it would look like but it was a thought. the point being that we SHOULD represent the major components of the program but we have room issues.

I've been thinking in the changes proposed to the patch, and I would like to put this new version, with some of them.

The MIR, (I would prefer only a station, but I like too having her in the patch) and two more stars, who represents all the astronauts of other countries (yellow one) and cosmonauts (red one), and, by the way, added to the five doubles of the Great Bear, the David and the apple... here are 14! (HouseDadX4 )

I hope you like it!

I'm also interested in have it as a patch but, who in interested in make it? I give anyone my blessing to do that (Robert?, Tim?, Randy?, Ken?) but please... send me a couple of them when made.

I don't know if this destroys the composition of your patch, but the amateur astronomer in me would vote for a more "anatomically correct" big dipper. Here is one possibility...

I would also vote for having the shuttle names wind clockwise around the patch in order of first flight, rather than counter-clockwise as they do now. Otherwise, an excellent patch.
