All four of these patches are vintage late 60s through early 70s. However none, so far as I can tell, match what I have come to identify as either Lions Bros.- or AB Emblem-produced (though I could be wrong). Any help in identifying these would be greatly appreciated. All four are 4" inch in diamater.

Is there a prize Robert? Bottom right is a Lion Brothers patch as far as I can see.

Robert, what about the back sides? Do you think this could help to identify any LB patch?

Bottom right is a beautiful example of a Lion Brothers Apollo 11 patch. Top left is an example of an AB Emblem patch. The other two I do not know about

I have an example of an Apollo 11 made by the Voyager Emblem Co in 1969 but it does not match either of the other two.

Thanks guys. Its been awhile since I have collected patches and only recently picked up the hobby again. I guess I am still rusty.

For what its worth, here are their reverses:

From my point of view the picture is more clear now concerning LB patches. If you look at the back of all the other NON-LB patches there is a "tail", extra hanging strings where the border terminates. That is a cheaper way to make patches and you will never see that on any Lion Brothers high quality patch. It is a dead giveaway of not being a Lion.

Therefore the bottom right (see the reverses) is a LB patch.

The lower right is a Lion Brothers but it is an Orange boarder Lion Brothers. The orange boarder patch is more rare than the yellow boarder. In most of the orange boarder patches the eagle's talons and beak are also orange. The patch Robert shows seems to have yellow talons and beak. Another mark of the Lion Brothers patch is the dark black line under the eagle's eye. Another thing that I look for to ID a Lion Brothers patch is the number of tail feathers. The Lion Brothers eagle has many more tail feathers while the AB patch has fewer.

The upper left seems to be an AB emblems patch but most ABs have brown land masses on the Earth. This patch seems to have dark land masses.

Robert, the orange border patch appears to be a Lion Bros. type; I have one in my collection. The one in the upper left appears to be an AB Emblems patch. The other two I believe are made by still another company. Neither, by the way, is the rare BIG (Biological Isolation Garment) patch. Lion Bros. made three slightly different Apollo 11 patches. One of course is the orange border/orange beak like yours then there were two yellow border/yellow beak types - one with a dark blue background and the other black.

Recently, I purchased these Apollo 11 and 12 patches. Both are four-inch cloth-backed types, but were not made by A-B Emblems or Lion Bros. The Apollo 11 patch was not made by Voyager either nor is it a BIG patch. Note the alignment of the four stars in the A-12 patch. It is not a "crew" patch. Does anyone know the maker of these?

David, I don't know the maker but I saw this group on eBay and noted that it also included the slightly crew-like Apollo 1 patch.

I updated my Crew Patches site to note that these three patches may be from the same manufacturer.

Incidentally, I'd be grateful if you could email me 100dpi scans of the AS1 and AS12 patches front and back on white backgrounds. That way I could add proper images as a reference on the site.

All times are CT (US)
