Was looking on Ebay and came across one of Randy Hunt's (4gator) auctions. Didn't know the Expedition 12 design was out there..Very nice!!! Here's a link for those interested.

I have seen a different version of the Exp-12 patch, so don't know if Randy's version is the "Real" one...

I believe tomorrow afternoon's press conference with the crew will resolve this issue.

I've seen the Expedtion 12 patch and that is it. But it's not official until released by NASA. Besides with Atlantis' flight facing a delay, Reiter might not make this Expedition either.

Click on the Photo and you see Tokarev with patches, Exp-12 and Soyuz TMA-7

Watching the press conference as I type. Looks like the eBay patch is the official patch! Olsen is wearing the patch too as a visitor on the Soyuz.

Quite possible the one Tokarev was wearing on the website Jacques pointed to could have been a Soyuz patch with a hint of EXP 12.

Note for those who may not be aware - the patches are usually simplified for the shirts - too much thread count otherwise - plus, they tend to curl if you put the whole patch on there. So, the image they wore today is a simplified one and agrees with the original posted on eBay.

The new Exp.12-Patch looks great!

But can you tell me, where I can find the new Exp.12 crew portrait? It was seen at NASA TV for a few seconds.

I spoke with Bill McArthur after today's press conference about his crew's patch. Its true that the emblem they were wearing is the background to their complete insignia. The official version of the patch - specifically the names that will appear on it - has not been decided (for reasons that should be clear to anyone following the launch manifest, but are explained briefly on the front page).

McArthur has said he will e-mail collectSPACE the patch artwork, at which point it will be shared on the site.

Received from Expedition 12 Commander Bill McArthur, here is their mission insignia:

McArthur writes, "Full production won't occur until all of us are on orbit. Valeri and I are confident that Thomas will be part of E12. If not, the patch will be modified accordingly."

That's interesting... so how do the crew get copies to wear ont their flight suits? For that matter, AB Emblem did not start production of the Exp 11 patch untill recently... so who produced their flight-patches?

The patch that Tokarev is wearing as shown on Alex Panchenko's site is totally different than the one shown above and the one worn at the press conference also seems different as shown on Spacepatches.info

Seems like there are three different versions.

Any other version than you see displayed above should be considered unofficial. The Expedition 12 patch Tokarev is wearing on USSR-Airspace.com may be his personal version, but its not the crew emblem. Randy Hunt's patch is obviously a souvenir and should be considered an unofficial version by definition.

Luc, McArthur told me that a very small quantity of patches are being produced now for the crew's use. Full production though (for retail sale, distribution etc.) won't begin until (presumeably) Reiter's ride is confirmed.

Robert:

If the shown patch above is the official one --what is the patch that was worn by the crew at the press conference??? It was obviously different -- wouldn't that be a prototype of some sort?

Mark-

What the crew wore on their shirts at the press conference is a simplified version of the patch. They take a couple of key elements and have it embroidered onto the shirt. Every crew does that.

Tim:

Thanks for the explanation. I figured that if the crew wore another version of the patch, that it would also have some validity at least on a prototype level.

The insignia has been revised, per NASA:

Some of this was discussed under the TMA-7 Patch thread, but I decided to post here because it pertains the Exp 12 patch.

I have noticed that during recent TV events from the ISS that Tokarev isn't wearing the
"official" Exp 12 patch. (the one on the Exp 12 page on the NASA website - and shown above). He wasn't wearing the Pachenko patch either. In the broadcast I saw last week he wore a completely different patch while McArthur wore the Exp 12 patch. Today in the Video File they showed the crew cheering on the Houston Astro's and Tokarev didn't wear any patch, while again McArthur wore the 12 patch.
I know it's a personal decision. The "10 crew" wore their patch almost constantly while the "11 crew" hardly ever did. But it strikes me as curious that there seems to be a subtle difference of opinion about recognizing this patch as their crew patch.
Then again I could be making something out of nothing. Has anybody else noticed this or do you know why?

The patch Tokarev is wearing is his personal patch - one of the patches produced for the ISS Expedition 12 crewmembers by Alex Panchenko. It features a SU-33 fighter aircraft - one of Tokarev's favourite aircraft. The ISS appears at the top of the patch.
Panchenko also produced a personal patch for McArthur which features a Blackhawk helicopter.

Interestingly the Expedition 12 mission emblem decal has not yet be stuck alongside the other expedition emblems aboard the ISS.
