As part of my Aerospace Design Experience Exhibit that I had on display early this year I have three full scale replicas of the first satellites: Sputnik 1, Explorer 1 and Vanguard 1. The Sputnik and Explorer are aluminum, steel and phenolic. The Vanguard uses aluminum and 3D printed SLS PA12 nylon, an archival material superior to PLA. The Vanguard is a unique prototype for the future metal versions.
Most of the parts are done using a metal spinning process and I can get a good deal if I order parts in bulk. So I'm thinking about selling these as a set then using those funds to make 5 to 10 more sets.
A few of those sets will be used for traveling exhibits and displays for places like schools, libraries and events.
I'd like to ask the collectors here if this set would be of interest. The price would be around $25K. Individually these sell from $15K to $7.5K. Thanks.
I still have the 3D interactive walk-through model online, please check it out. Even the QR codes work.
