And now let's try it with the latch closed.

I have a question about cleaning this model. I use a brush to dust most fragile items but I'm not sure if that would scratch the visor. I looked into an acrylic case but that costs as much as the model. All ideas welcome. Thank you.

A photographers “puffer/blower” brush would help.

You are welcome Bud! The bristles on puffer/blower brushes are very fine and designed not to scratch delicate optics. Ideal for the job!

After a slowdown in my ability to work on the flag holder upgrade to this model I have check fit the assemblies I have. Big thanks to Michael Key who produced the end fitting (a two part assembly) based on my rudimentary drawing. Fit up looks good so far.

I used 0.025 thick aluminum I obtained from Lowes. Using a dowel, I formed it into shape and trimmed to size. I then used the same dowel wrapped in a mylar blanket piece to look like the wrapped flag.

The end fittings need paint and there are some details I need to work out like a red button at the lower end. More to come but as some have asked I wanted to post a progress report.

All done! Painted the end fittings, added the red release button and depicted the white pull for what I believe allowed the astronaut to grab and pull out the rolled up protected flag.
