I have printed, made and painted this 1/20 SpaceX Raptor rocket engine. The 3D CAD file was created by Charles Lee Lesher from the Facebook Space Modelling group who generously offered it free of charge to that membership. ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/norman.king/spacex_raptor_3dprint01-lg.jpg) ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/norman.king/spacex_raptor_3dprint02-lg.jpg)

The final photo shows my Raptor engine next to the Accurate Models F1 engine of the same scale. That was built for my by Steve Nichols who I credit as my inspiration to start building my own models. ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/norman.king/spacex_raptor_3dprint04-lg.jpg) |

This is a great looking model and top notch build. Nice job, Norman.I do wonder about models of proprietary designs of hardware that is subject to ITAR. I realize that the same level of detail can be found in photos of the real engine, but it seems like we are approaching a point of possible concern. |

Thank you Steve, you were a great teacher, although I still wouldn't attempt to paint a figure. quote: Originally posted by Robert Pearlman: This is a great looking model and top notch build. Nice job, Norman.
Thank you for your compliment Robert, it means a lot.I’m not familiar with ITAR but I would assume that any designs in the public domain that are accurate enough to let someone accurately model it in a CAD program would be exempt from any restrictions, although I can see how it might limit any commercial activity from it (i.e. selling the model). |

Following my recent 3D printed build of a 1/20 SpaceX Raptor engine, the CAD designer of that model asked if I'd like to prototype his next design, the 1/20 SpaceX Merlin engine.I enthusiastically said yes and here is the end result... ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/norman.king/spacex_merlin_3dprint01.jpg) ![](http://www.collectspace.com/review/norman.king/spacex_merlin_3dprint02.jpg)

Thank you Steve, that means a lot.The CAD designer of those engines has the RS-25 lined up for his next project but it's left me with a problem because even at 1/20 scale it's way too big to print on my little printer. |
