This Saturn V model sourced from the estate of a former Marshall Space Flight Center engineer. It's 10.5 inches tall so approximately 1/400. It is all metal construction but despite the segments lines, it does not separate into stages. I have been trying to find photos of another example to determine if the needle-like LES is the way it was made or if it's missing some detail there?

From the vehicle red letter labels it appears to be a MSFC manufactured model. Interestingly the attached plaque it not the typical MSFC style but that could be due to the small scale. I would say if it is MSFC then the LES is not correct as it would make no sense for the model to be white and not the LES.The LES would have a little more defined shape, in my opinion, as MSFC manufactures these models in their own model shop and other scales I have detail. Also as the S-IC stage is painted with the flight colors (not the SA-500F facilities integration version) thus the model is a later version. Like you, I can not find any reference photos and I have not seen this scale from MSFC before. Hope that helps a little. |

To me, it looks like the original LES broke off, there is a jagged edge around what looks like a nail that was used as a replacement. |

It turns out the "nail" is as designed. There should be a small, silvaloid (cast white metal) collar that fits around the shaft. I guess I have some more 3D printing to do. (Image source: MSFC model shop archives) |

Ah, yes that would be the detail I would expect. It looks like the collar would be the tower assembly that would be too small to produce in that scale so it is a solid representation. Just looking at the part length beside the scale/ruler in the photo it would be right for a 1/400 scale model as well. I wonder if the tower structure detail may have been painted on the outside of a collar painted white? Can I ask what site you found the photo on? |

There is a ~1/400 Apollo Saturn V model/toy available that you might be able to use for parts. I have seen it at places like Hobby Lobby, I don't recall the manufacturer but an online search mentions Dragon CanDo. |
