Accurate Models has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $25,000 to produce a 1:32 scale Apollo lunar module model kit.
To date our company has funded all the initial startup captial to develop working blueprints, 3D files, test tooling patterns, as well as test castings. Incredibly, we are now better than 60% completed and are working on the Ascent Stage 3D files, which will be the last portion needed to create this replica...

Here is our current dilemma; we are still $25,000.00 away from the finish line. We have put all of our own money into this kit thus far (over $20,000.00) and simply have used up all our reserves over the last few years. We have decided to seek donations from modellers and collectors that would like to see this model kit come to fruition and are ready to make the final push as time and and money becomes available.

This would not be a pre-assembled kit, right?

Correct, it will be a model kit, not a pre-assembled, painted model. The "all in one" kit will allow builds of the Apollo 9 through Apollo 14 (Series D through Series H) lunar modules.

This looks like a great model, and based on their earlier F1 engine model, it will be spectacular. I'm planning to do the GoFundMe, but I wonder if there are enough serious modelers out there to make it all the way to $25K.

I'm wondering how this compares with Vincent Meen's Shapeways kit?

As to the question of comparing with Vincent's 1/32 scale kit, I will be putting in (A) more details, (B) skin surface undulations, (C) spun cast metal and photo-etch parts. (D) Mixed media kit pricing down to around $300.00 USD plus shipping.

Yes, I agree, the funding mark is a high one, but we need to get there either with my money, patrons money, or GoFundMe donations to make it happen.

More to follow soon. You can also follow along on Accurate Models FaceBook page and at my FaceBook page under Jim Key.
