My son Finn's Pinewood Derby car won Best in Show this past weekend. We carved Freedom 7 from a block of wood. He's hopelessly hooked on space.

That's a beautiful job by your son Rob. Congratulations.

Here's an orbiter derby car made by the people where I work. We just glued the NASA paper-airplane kit to the wooden block, no carving of the shape as you did so nicely.

And no thermal tiles necessary at the speeds we reached!

Awesome car! I can remember trying to carve the block of wood for Pinewood Derby with a pocket knife... was about 1959 or so when I was in the Cub Scouts.

Rob, that derby car is spectacular and deserves the trophy. By the way, it's nice to see you posting again.

I wonder where Finn gets his affinity for space??? Congratulations Rob for raising that kid right. Nice to see you re-surface.
