Just finished this project for cS member GACSpaceGuy. It includes the upper conical portion of the Atlas booster. The LES is the Accurate Models kit, which went together very well. The capsule/tower separate from the booster/adapter for transport/playing with. The adapter and booster were scratchbuilt using 1/8" balsa framing and 1/16 balsa paneling followed by styrene wrapping. The stringers on the adapter are 3/32 balsa strips that I cut and hand applied one at a time. The finished model is nearly 5' tall. Good grief, that thing is HUGE! But it is also really nice and you did great work on it. I really like the look of the paneling on the sliding door section on the capsule. Did you airbrush that on or did you add some sort of vac panel to the clear piece to make it look like that?BTW, is that a built Revell Star Destroyer I see in the background of one of your in progress pics? |

Thanks for putting these photos up. I am in the process of doing an escape tower for my GI Joe capsule and wish I would have known about your work earlier. That's something to be proud of. Excellent work!------------------ http://spacemuseum.skymtn.com/ |

Thanks guys!Jay, yes that is the ROG SD. Great kit too. The only extra things I did to the capsule were to paint the heatshield and retro pack, and lightly overspray black on the shingles, as they were "weathered" by the toy company and made the capsule look like it had already been recovered, not as flight-ready condition. I masked off all the markings with frisket before I repainted the capsule. |
