I recently purchased some bolts and I was hoping that someone could help me in identifying where and what they were used for. I assume that they are Space Shuttle, but the one bolt (#2 below) has different markings on it that make me think that it may be earlier, maybe Apollo era? That bolt has the part number 30M01 005. The head also appears to be painted gray/green with a copper color over that. The info on the specific bolts below: - Bolt #1: P/N MD 111-4040-2244, SPS 01. This bolt came in its original box. On Box Tag: MOF3XXD-530292L, MD111-4040-2244, RV. A, 659802, Date 09/90. Tape around midsection had #5 in black sharpie. There is also a 5 in Sharpie on the box. Measures 7", Weighs 3 lbs. 8 oz
- Bolt #2 with washer, P/N printed on bolt 30M01 005, Measures 5 3/4", Weighs 1 lb. 5 oz.
- Bolt #3: P/N 1310173-1, Measures 3 1/2", Weighs 6.2 oz.

Looks like from a quick glance that the first bolt pictured is part of a SSME family since the heading of its serial number is MD 111-4040. They're not main engine gimbal bolts even though gimbal bolts have similar numbers. The other two, for now, remind me of other used shuttle orbiter bolts with the last entry more likely not related to the main engines (maybe from the payload bay areas). | |
