I'm trying to find the font that was used for the cuff checklist that was sewn on Neil Armstrong's left glove gauntlet. One of the distinguishing features is that the top of the capital A is squared-off.If you know what font was used please let me know. Thank you. |

I recommend you get in touch with Ryan Nagata, who created the gloves used in the movie "First Man." If anyone knows, it's Ryan. |

Most of the typography used by NASA in their documentation at the time was Helvetica and Futura. There are a few documents that detail The Typography of Flight-Deck Documentation and there are some discussions about the subject such as this. |

Thanks for the suggestions.I'm also trying to determine the part numbers of the labels inside Armstrong's right and left gloves. Both part numbers were changed. The right glove is XX 10 and it looks like the left glove is 0109 13. If someone knows what the original and final numbers are please let me know. |

Other than the top of the capital A (damaged/worn type element?), it is otherwise Letter Gothic. The Orator typeface was very similar and has the slab on top of the A, but it also had serifs on D and B and lacked the down stroke on the G. |

The typeface of the cuff checklist is Futura. The font style is semi-bold. Semi-bold and bold series fonts of the Futura typeface has the flat apex for the "A" character, whereas the thin and normal font does not. Also note on the cuff checklist example that the capitol "G" character includes a spur. The cuff checklists were printed using tooling designed to put typeface on fabric. It may not be easy to identify an existing digital typeface that matches the mechanical stamps used to form each character, you may have to create a customised digital set. Note that all of the checklist characters are uppercase. I have printed something similar to fabric using a printer designed to print on photo canvas. |
