This gyro unit was in a collection of models I bought last year that used to belong to Max Mayer.

Max Mayer was a test pilot and engineer that worked in Peenemunde before and during WW2. He was later a leading figure in the German and European Space Agency.

A friend of me that works servicing the guidance system on the Minuteman missiles id it as a early type accelerometer.

It stands about 3.5" tall. It must have been enclosed in a casing, black base was added by me for display. Any info appreciated.

It looks to be an old rigid mounted gyroscope similar to this item reported to be from a missile, Hope this helps.
