Can anyone tell me the exact color of the control panels in the Apollo Command Module? Maybe: RAL 7004 or RAL 9006? Thanks for help!

Thanks Scott. Do you know if the Federal Colors are the same as RAL Colors? There is a match of colors? Because, I do not find federal colors in my country. |

No, RAL and Federal Standard 595 are two different color systems. FS595 is a US color system. RAL is a German system, so US space hardware would not use RAL colors. Here is one conversion chart. To use it, first press Okay on the pop-up box. Then, in the Select Columns To Show box, select at least FS595 and RAL. If you click the RAL column header, it will sort by RAL number. Just scroll down through all the blanks to get to the first RAL number. If the FS 595 column says "99999", it means there's no close match for that RAL number. I can't vouch for its accuracy, but it should get you close at least. US model paint brands, such as Model Master and Polly Scale, have many FS colors, so that may be your best bet.

Thanks for information. I need a lot of color to paint a command module on a 1:1 scale... I have to find a RAL that is as close as possible. I see the conversion chart, maybe 7012... (but is still far away). |

Model paints would be a bit expensive for 1:1 scale. If you can get a paint chip of the correct color, a paint store (Sherwin Williams, Home Depot or Lowe's in the USA) can match it in latex or enamel house paints. That could then be thinned if necessary to provide a smooth, thin coating. |

Conversely you can send me a RAL color deck and I will shoot test shots against one of the panels |

Without screen color calibration dont think its possible to accurately evaluate your electronically forwarded images of the RAL pallet. Printing them out would result in the same issue (its not calibrated either) - would need an original example from the deck to shoot against the artifact if you are going for accuracy. |

Unfortunately I do not have available an original from the deck. We will make evidence to the color of American Standard #36231 and #36251. |

I found Testors selles 36251 as "Agressor Gray". That looks to match the panel in the photgraph. SpaceAholic I recall you mentioned mixing 2 colors for a proper shade. Could you please repost the combination? I am going to make a small panel as a test. I am experimenting with lettering also right now. So far I am finding switches to be the hardest thing to find. |
